northrup-donald-croppedNORTHRUP:  After spending a wonderful day with his wife, prior to suffering a massive stroke, Donald “Don” Leslie Northrup, of Grand Cove Estates, Grand Bend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on Sunday, September 11, 2016, at South Huron Hospital, Exeter, age 84.  Beloved husband of Sharon Jeanne (Warren) (Sutherland) (Rotteau) Northrup.  Loved father and father-in-law Keith and Linda Northrup of London, Ken and Michelin Northrup of Fonthill, Donna and Derek Hunt of Barrie, Dave and Paula Northrup of St. Thomas, Dan Northrup of British Columbia.  Remembered by Sharon’s family Jeff Sutherland and MaryAnne Kenney of Hensall, Brian Sutherland of Exeter, Mark and Margaret Sutherland of Mount Carmel.  Don will be loved and missed by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families.  Dear brother-in-law of Robert Ripley.  Predeceased by his parents Hartley and Francis (Sweeney) Northrup, son Terry Northrup, siblings Eileen Ripley, Bruce Northrup, Barbara Speight, Sandra Northrup and Patsy Saikaley.  At Don’s request, cremation has taken place.  A  Memorial Service will be held at the T. FRY: Karren Ann of Vancouver Formerly of Ontario

images-4It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Karren Ann Fry. Karren passed away in her home on June 13, 2016. 

Karren was was born to Alan (2013) and Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Fry on December 12, 1976 at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria B.C.  After an early life in British Columbia, Karren’s family moved to Ontario where she completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours in Criminology from Windsor University in Ontario, which led to her working with RCMP in the student program as a young adult.  She eventually moved to Vancouver BC where she married Cary De Best and had her beautiful daughter, Leah.  In time, Karren ventured out on her own and worked as a support worker for adults with mental illness.
 
Karren was a loving mother, dedicated family member and a good friend. Her raw sincerity, infectious laugh, sense of humour and amazing spirit made her a joy to be around. She would brighten anyone’s day with a caring message of support or a ridiculous story.  

Karren was a sincere Buddhist and loved travelling to international Dharma Festivals with her brother for teachings and inspiration.  Special powa ceremonies were performed for Karren by Gen Kelsang Thekchen and friends at Kadampa Mediation Centre Vancouver on June 20th, 2016, As well by her Teacher and friend Gen Kelsang Delek and many others.

Karren enjoyed nature and would find peace during a long walk with her daughter in the parks that line the beautiful coast of Vancouver.  She especially loved animals and adored her two little boy cats Thomas (T-Dawg) and Sammy. 

Her family, friends, and all those she touched will miss her tremendously. Karren is survived by her beautiful and loving daughter, Leah De Best (Cary); Her Mother Elizabeth and grandmother Nelda Sauer; her uncles Jim, Ron, Tom, Doug and her Aunt Ellen; her brother Jeff Fry (Devon) and niece Lexa; and her sister Leanne Fry. 
 

There will be a a celebration of life on July 2nd, 2016 from 11:00am – 2:00pm at St. James Community Centre, 3214 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver B.C.

Passed away at his home in Waterdown, after a long and prosperous life, on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the age of 94. Beloved husband for nearly 62 years to Kathleen (nee Marion). Loving father of Della Marie, the late Wayne (1979), Michael (Maureen), and Karen Marion (Claude). Cherished Papa of Cassandra (Sean), Maria (Wayne), Suzanne (Tyler), Michelle, Dianne (Jonathan), Sarah, Emilly, and great Papa of 8 great grandchildren. Survived by his sister Gilberette, Rev. Sister St. Rose of the Daughters of Wisdom, Ottawa. Predeceased by his siblings Roger, Paul-Emile, Aurel, Joseph, Fernand, Rose, Juliette, and Annette. Del was a WWII Veteran, having served as Bandsman. He worked at Ford Motor Company in Oakville, before working and retiring with Petro Canada. Del was very involved in sports, both playing and coaching in the Waterdown community. He was a devoted member of the Catholic Church, and also enjoyed his time playing with the Oakville Citizen Band. Most importantly Del was the rock and foundation of his family, and his sense of humour, and love will always be remembered. Blanche Berneace Tomlinson (nee Gough), 88, of Burlington, Ontario passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital on March 24, 2016, after a lengthy illness.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 pm [Noon] April 8th, 2016 at the Appin Presbyterian Church, Appin Ontario.
Blanche was born in Ekfrid Township on October 1, 1927. She was a former employee of the Royal Bank of Canada having started her career at Dutton branch and ultimately retiring from Stoney Creek Branch. It was the vacancy she left at Dutton branch that allowed her son to also join the Royal Bank where he spent the next 41 years before also retiring in 2004.
Blanche was married to Edward Grant Tomlinson who pre-deceased her on December 7, 2000.
Blanche is survived by her son Ross and his wife Valentina; foster daughter Faith Zouzal and her husband Karl; grandsons Brent Tomlinson; Eric and Karl Zouzal; Alex and Stan Kazakov and great-grandson Jack Tomlinson.

McCracken, Charles of Sarnia

O. L. as a Lab Tech for over 30 yrs.  His biggest honour was being inducted in the Sarnia Sports Hall of Fame as Mr. Soccer.  He will be missed by all his friends from the downtown core.  A memorial service will be held at the D. 89 years, Windsor, Ontario died peacefully on February 17, 2016 at Village of Aspen Lake Nursing Home.

Born in Tignish, PEI but lived and worked most of her life in Chicago as a psychiatric nurse, Frances spent many years supporting the wellness of those who struggled with mental health. Within her career she was distinguished for her dedication, compassion and professionalism.

Predeceased by dear friend and lifelong companion Gene Hoffman (Chicago) and by parents Emma (Gaudet), Edward DeRoche and step-father Octave Gaudet. Sister to Dr. James DeRoche (late Mary), Edward DeRoche (Anne), the late Felicia Bering (late Peter) and the late Gerard DeRoche (Margaret). Aunt Fran is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews for her fun loving spirit and infectious laugh. Thank you to staff at Aspen Lake for their loving care.

Pan, Anthony DN photoPAN, Anthony “Tony”- Peacefully, surrounded by his cherished family on February 5, 2016 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Mary for 61 years.  Loving father of Jerry (Carol), Susan Diamond (Bill) and Darlene Kornya (Gary). Proud grandfather of Kristin (Sean Ainsworth) and Joshua Diamond, Jeremy, Jessica and Justin Pan, Matthew, Melanie and Michael Kornya.

Tony was born in Strakonice, Czechoslovakia in 1929 and immigrated to Canada as a young man. He worked at General Motors for 31 years retiring in 1990.  His greatest loves in life were his wife and family, his garden and golfing. Tony’s warmth, compassion and especially his sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Special thanks to Dr. Arvinte and the staff of Hotel Dieu Shaver for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

56928fbc9da72EDWARD CLAYTON STEWART passed away suddenly at Bluewater Health Sarnia on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at the age of 71. Edward Stewart was born in Lucknow, Ontario on January 27, 1944. Left to mourn are his children; Carolyn Stewart (Rheal), Charles Stewart (Heather), Tina Bigras (James), Kelly Morin (Joe), Tammy Stewart (Rick). Will also be missed by his 13 grandchildren and his 11  great grandchildren and his dear friend Diane Carlson. Predeceased by his parents and his two sons; Edward and Lee. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date in his hometown of Espanola. Hearn, Beatrice blOn January 1st Beatrice peacefully passed at Bella Senior Residence at the age of 95.  Predeceased Stan, her loving husband of 56 years, beloved mother of Barbara Hickey (David deceased), Beverley Whitworth (Brian), Betting Jolley (Harry). She will be sadly missed by Sister-in-law Frances, Brother-in-law Richard and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bea was well known throughout the community while working at Stamford A & P for over 30 years and was a faithful and a long-time member of Stamford Presbyterian Church.

Funeral Arrangements are as follows at Stamford Presbyterian Church, Thursday January 7, 2016. Visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow the service then followed by a reception in the church hall. Peacefully, on January 1, 2016, our beloved husband, father, and Opa was called home in his 68th year, to be with his Lord and Saviour. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 45 years, Marga (nee Kraal), and his children Lawrence Stam, Richard and Tracey Stam, Alina and Michael Noot, and Anne-Marie and Rick VanIperen. He will also be missed by his grandchildren Jordan, Austin, and Logan Stam; Liana, Alexa, and Jared Noot; and Megan, Kristen, Clark, Natalie, Ruth, and Ariella VanIperen. He was predeceased by his beloved son Edward Stam in 1992. Loved brother of the late Jenny and the late Gerrit VanWoudenberg, the late Ben and Ria Stam, Len and Hennie Stam, John Stam, and Bev and Bill Schouten; and brother-in-law of Jane Stam, Hilly and the late Wim Van Ingen, Egbert and the late Betty Kraal, Jaap and Grietje Kraal, Geke and Frans Tijssen, Jacomien and Henk Broer, Alet and Theo Aalbers, Eveline and Jan Neutel. He will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Clarence faithfully served the Canadian Reformed churches from 1972 to 2004.  Special thanks go to the doctors and nurses of Juravinski E3 for their care and compassion during his illness. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at CORNERSTONE CANADIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 353 Stonechurch Rd. E., Hamilton, where a Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 10 a.m. Rev. John Louwerse officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Donations to Mission Brazil (Gospel Action Brazil) in support of the ongoing mission and aid project in Maceió Brazil, or to the Harvest Endowment Foundation in support of Christian education would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Lu, Ying “Lily” of Sarnia

yingwebYing (Lily) Li Lu, of Sarnia, died at 8:15 pm, Sunday December 27th, 2015 at the Bluewater Health in Sarnia, Ontario. She was born (1932) in Nanking, China to parents Ai Hui Chao and Fen Sun Chen. She married Hsiang Sung Lu in 1959 and he survives. Also surviving are her son-in-law David Barton and 3 grandchildren: Michael, Brenna and Kailynn Barton of Ann Arbor, Michigan, cousin Nancy Lichon (husband Fran), and other family members. Her daughter Alice Lu Barton preceded her in death.Lily received her Bachelor’s Degree at Taiwan University and her Master’s Degree at the University of Oklahoma. She was a long time resident of Sarnia and was a librarian at Sarnia Public Library.Lily was a loving mother and grandmother. She was outgoing, humorous and kind. She enjoyed traveling and time with her family. She and her husband were generous donors to a variety of organizations including Northwestern University, Sarnia Public Library, Sarnia Art Gallery, Canadian Cancer Society and many others. She and her husband were awarded the Lambton County Award for generous donations and ongoing support to the Cultural Services Division. Services will be held at the D.J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE on Sunday, January 3rd, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 2nd, 2016 between the hours of 7:00p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
