Munroe, John Donald Floyd of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, November 8th, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, in his 66th year. Dearly loved and devoted husband of Elizabeth “Ann” Munroe. Loved father of John Michael Munroe (Marcia), Lisa Marie Henry (Todd) and dear step-father of Tammy Lynn Susan Pokeda (Mitch), Kimberly Ann Jean Hein and Denise Lee Margaret (Hein) Ruck. Loved brother of Sharron Rupple (Avery), Trudy Jordan (Bob) and dear brother-in-law of John and Lori McFarlane, Jim McFarlane, Mike and Linda Roesner, all of St. Thomas. Much loved grandfather of Kaitlyn and Taylor Munroe, Nathan, Natalie and Nicole Henry, William and Meghan Beeney and Jacob and Alyssa Pokeda. Special uncle to Skyler McFarlane and also remembered by several nieces, nephews and cousins. John was born in St. Thomas on June 8, 1947, the son of the late John Lewis and Margaret (Eileen) (Russelo) Munroe. John has lived in St. Thomas all his life. He worked at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital, the London-St. Thomas Y.M.C.A. and Home Hardware, St. Thomas. John was a member of First United Church. He was a former member of the Elgin Regiment Trumpet Band and the Old Elgin Band. He was a Past President of the Port Stanley Legion and served on the Executive Committee . He also was a member of the City of St. Thomas Heritage Committee and the Honours and Awards Committee.
The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held at First United Church on Monday at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in South Park Cemetery. A Memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. by Officers and Members of Branch 410 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Port Stanley. Remembrances may be made to the Port Stanley Legion Building Fund or First United Church Building Fund.
