carlmitchellB+w_finalPeacefully in his home, surrounded by loving family, Carl Mitchell, age 60 of Sarnia, passed on June 6, 2013 after a brief, but courageous fight with cancer.  Carl was the loving husband of Susan (nee Sparks) for 38 years, dear father of Chris (Jill) Mitchell and Carl (Leslie) Mitchell, proud grandfather of Isabelle, Bowen, Addison, and Cameron, and eldest son of Betty Dee Black.  He is survived by his brothers Paul Mitchell and Gerry (Verba) Black, sisters Lori Mitchell, Cheri Mitchell, and Sue Core, sister-in-law Janet Seale, and brother-in-law Dan Core.  Carl was predeceased by his brother Robert Black and recently, by his father Jack Mitchell.  Carl is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nephews, and cousins.

Raised in Sarnia, Carl went to S.C.I.T.S. and completed his B.A. (Geography) at Carleton University, where he was a varsity basketball player.  He worked for Fiberglass Canada for 8 years and then London Life Insurance Company for 28 years.  Carl enjoyed the outdoors and gardening, was a great sports fan, a talented card-player, and a one-time North American backgammon champion.  He was known best for his loud and hearty laugh.  He was devoted to his community, his clients, and foremost, his family.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, June 10, 2013, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Smith Funeral Home. Cremation to follow.  Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Huron House Boy’s Home or St. Joseph’s Hospice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
