Peacefully at home on Sunday 17th November, in his 89th year with his family by his side. Much- loved and cherished husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife Jean of 55 years, his daughter Louise and her husband Geoff of Somerset, England, his son Wayne and wife Ruth, and granddaughters Hannah and Micaela of Guelph. Brother-in-law to Dorothy Milton of Kanata, Anne White of Birr and Donald and Grace Cameron of London; cousin to Betty Johnson and Stuart Stacey, both of Dutton. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jack and Clarence and his sister Helen. He is also fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, and other cousins. Lorne was man of God, with a strong faith. He was a stalwart member and deacon of the Dutton Baptist Church, of which his grandfather was a founding member. In 1939, with the outbreak of war, Lorne’s formal education ended, and he began to work full-time on the family farm in Dutton beside his father Henry and mother Mabel (nee Hodder). Since this time, the defining qualities of Lorne’s life have been hard-work, commitment and service. Lorne loved farming, and was always keen to engage in the latest farming news, as well as retaining the best of past traditions. He was a keen supporter of the Wallacetown Agricultural Society and served three times as the President. Lorne was always interested in supporting his community and for twenty years, he served faithfully as a volunteer member of the Dutton Dunwich Fire Department. He loved the outdoors and over the years, the family has enjoyed many happy camping trips. Lorne was passionate about his gardening, and just weeks before his death, he was planning next year’s garden. It was always Lorne’s wish to die in the family home, where his father had died in 1947, and where he had been born in 1925. With the kind, compassionate care of Red Cross Nurses and Personal Support Workers, Lorne’s wishes were made possible. Friends may call at the Arn Funeral Home, 193 Shackleton St. Dutton 519-762-2416 on Wednesday 20th November, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., where the Funeral will take place on Thursday 21st November at 11 a.m. Internment at Cowal-McBride Cemetery to follow. Gifts in memory of Lorne may be made to the Dutton Baptist Church or the West Elgin Daffodil Society. E-mail condolences
