MILLER, Helen (Nee McGuigan and formerly NASH) of Blenheim
Helen Catherine Miller (nee McGuigan and formerly Nash) passed away at the Blenheim Community Village on Saturday November 16, 2013 at the age of 93 years. Born on July 14, 1920, Helen was one of five siblings born to the late Florence Hanna (Fitzgerald) and Virgil Gladstone McGuigan. She is survived by her brother Robert Gladstone McGuigan and her sisters-in-law Tina McGuigan and Mona McGuigan. Helen was predeceased by her siblings Maurice Lemoyne & Simone (Verhoeven) McGuigan, David Virgil & Helen (Pardo) McGuigan and James Fitzgerald McGuigan. Helen taught at local schools including Erieau, Winston Churchill, Indian Creek, John N. Given and Queen Elizabeth Public Schools. Helen was an amateur artist, a traveler and a story-teller. She was a lover of God, Canada, beauty, style, nature, theatre, literature and the CBC. She was generous, intellectually curious, a non-conformist, independent, spiritually seeking and a believer in prayer. She was insistent on good English.
Helen will be missed by her husband Edward Stanley Miller, her son Michael Alan Nash and his wife Linda Ellen (Ljunggren) Nash, by her grandchildren Gabriel, Samuel and Daniel Nash, her step-grandchildren Christopher and Tara Miller, by her step great-grandchildren Alexandra and Abigail Miller and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her stepson Alexander (Sandy) Miller. In keeping with Helen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 59 Ellen Street in Blenheim on Saturday November 30, 2013 at 12:00 noon. A reception will follow at the church immediately following the service. Friends wishing to remember Helen with a memorial donation are asked to consider Trinity Anglican Church or the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
