Merlin Dan Jan 11cropIt is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Dan Merlin on Saturday, January 11th, 2014, at the age of 55.  Truly one of a kind, he was a lover of family, friends, his community, the fire service, fireworks, motorcycles and fishing. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Betti for more than 35yrs. He was the very best Dad to Jackie, and Jim (Rebecca) and was the cherished only child of Ella and the late Jack.  He will be sorely missed by his  friends and colleagues at OPG Pickering, Darlington and most recently, the Wesleyville Fire and Rescue Academy.  He was a lifetime member and former Executive officer of the Firefighters Association of Ontario. He is a past provincial President of the Red Knights International  Motorcycle club in Ontario (Association 6) and the current president of the local Cobourg chapter (ON13). He is also a past president of the Lions Club of Cobourg.  He touched and made a difference in so many lives on a daily basis and he was unfailingly generous in offering his time and help wherever it was needed.   A celebration of his life will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E. in Cobourg on Wednesday, January 15th, at 11 am.  Visitation to be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 14th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  Spring interment at Camborne Cemetery.  Those wishing may make a memorial donation by cheque  to Camp BUCKO or to NHH – Palliative Care Unit.  Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.
