meadus2 cropped obitPeacefully at Bluewater Health, on Thursday, June 26, 2014, Avis Letitia (Mootoo) Meadus passed away at the age of 77.  Beloved wife of William J. Meadus.  Loving mother of Jon Meadus (Jennifer Zanting), Kim Meadus-Guest (Glenn Guest), Laila Meadus and Kira Meadus-Andrews (Dan Andrews).  Cherished grandmother of Quinn, Issac and Mariika Meadus, Kailey and Brittany Guest.  Dear sister of Trevor Mootoo of Toronto, Ninon Laudat of Port of Spain and the late Nola Mootoo.  Special aunt of David Mootoo, Samara (Paul) Connor, Averil Laudat and Geoffrey Laudat.  Avis graduated from nursing at The Winnipeg General Hospital in 1960 and was a Registered Nurse for 52 years and spent most of her years at The Sarnia General and St. Joseph’s Hospitals in Sarnia. Her nursing career allowed for Avis and Jack to travel to all corners of the world and experience many incredible destinations.  Avis was a longtime member of St. John’s in the Wilderness Anglican Church, a member of the Red Hat Society and volunteered her time for many charities, The Inn of the Good Shepherd and St. Joseph’s Hospice to name a few.  Family and friends will be received at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Sunday, June 29, 2014 in the afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held to celebrate Avis’s life on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home with cremation to follow.  Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Cancer Research Society – http://www.crs-src.ca/ (cheques only when donating at the funeral home please). smithfuneralhome.ca
