Richard McTaggart (001)McTAGGART, Richard Roland “Rick” (1951-2014).With great sadness, we announce the passing of Rick McTaggart on May 21, 2014 in Ottawa, with his family at his side.  Born in St. Thomas, he was son of the late Donald and Eleanor (nee Birchall) McTaggart, formerly of Park Ave. Beloved husband and best friend of Victoria “Vicki” (nee Collard). Loving father of Scott and his partner Juliana Cassini.  He is also survived by a sister, Patricia Wilcox and her husband Larry of Newfoundland, in-laws, Elizabeth and Dan De Mos of Manotick, as well as several nieces and nephews. Rick was the little brother of the late Donalda.

Following graduation from Central Elgin Collegiate Institute, St. Thomas and the University of Guelph, Rick moved to Ottawa to join the foreign service of External Affairs in 1974, later moving to the Canadian International Development Agency.  Rick served Canada’s diplomatic and development interests for 33 years, including postings to Singapore, the Philippines and Egypt. His grass roots approach led him to a work assignment with USC Canada, and in retirement he continued his passion for development on volunteer assignments with the Canadian Executive Service Organization.

A loving and caring husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, his unique sense of humour and love of adventure will remain forever in our hearts.

Rick’s cremated remains will be interred privately in the St. Thomas Cemetery, West Ave. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a reception to share memories of Rick on Thursday, May 29th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Wayside Inn, 10680 Sunset Rd., Talbotville.
