“McLellan, Richard Laird, C.D.,
Major R.C.A. (Retired), DOB 18 January 1931 and died October 7, 2012 at approximately 4:35 pm. His military service(1951-1975)included postings in nine of Canada’s ten provinces, plus Korea, Kashmir, Europe, and somewhat shorter periods in the Middle East and the United States;DND public servant (1975-1986) and worked as a consultant on a number of military history related contracts at the National Archives (1987-1995). Dick was born in Arcola, Saskatchewan. He was the husband of the late Frances (nee Schultz) deceased in 1998; predeceased by his mother (Rose) in 1995 and his father (Archie) in 1972. He leaves Joan Kenny his wife and companion, two daughters Nancy Hemp (Larry Stein), Cindy Melka, granddaughter Andrea, great-grandson Ryden and grandson Cameron Melka, brother Barry and his wife Shirley, Aunt Mary Ehnis, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. Upon his marriage to Joan Kenny in 2006 he also acquired a second round of in-laws and their families – all were gratefully received. His cremated remains will join those of Fran in their shared plot in the Oxford Mills, Ontario Protestant Cemetery. A private grave-side service will be held for this purpose at a later date.
