McKinnon, Donald Vincent of Aylmer, passed away peacefully, with his three daughters by his side on Thursday, June 7th, 2012, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, following surgery, in his 77th year. Dearly loved wife of 54 years of Marilyn (Sturgis) McKinnon and much loved father of Debbie and her husband Rick LeBlanc, Linda and her husband Rob Creed and Marianne and her husband Charles Kirby. Loved grandfather of Joseph Ashton and Jackie Anstee, Richelle LeBlanc and Keenen Bogart, Ashley Brunelle, Alicia Robillard (late Neil ), Miranda Kirby and Jessie Tanguay, Chantal Kirby and Davey Nickel and Todd Kirby and Great Grandfather of Charlee Rae Kirby. Donald was born in Teeswater, Ontario, the son of the late John and Florence McKinnon. He was the 3rd of six children Jim (deceased) Anna McKinnon, Jack (deceased), Betty and Jim Ryan, Madeline McKinnon, Joe and Trudy McKinnon. Dear son-in-law of Angeline Sturgis and brother-in-law of Carol and Rob Hosie. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Don started his profession of teaching at the age of 18 in St. Thomas. He taught at Holy Rosary and Assumption School in Aylmer. He taught over 36 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Aylmer and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Don was a founder and Past President of the Cherry Street Development.
A Mass to celebrate Don’s life will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Aylmer on Thursday June 14th at 2:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow. Cremation has taken place with private interment of ashes will be held in Aylmer Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, the Caring Cupboard or Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
