Passed away peacefully at Trillium Villa in Sarnia surrounded by the family she loved.
Lea is survived by her five children and their spouses: Scott (Carmen), Kyle (Cindy), Todd (Laura), Tim (Sandy) and Ann Crump (Rod).
She leaves behind a huge void in the lives of seven adoring grandchildren: Joseph, Nathan, Maddi, Abby, Jaclyn, Mark and Sophie. She is predeceased by her parents John and Miza Alpine and her brother Bud Alpine.
Lea was a graduate of Sarnia Collegiate Institute and Technical School (1949). She was also a graduate of the Volunteer Management Diploma Program of Humber College, in Toronto.
Lea raised her children in South Sarnia but always found time to spend with family on the shores of Lake Huron. She was employed in various fields over many years while raising her family, retiring from Sarnia General Hospital as the Director of Volunteer Services. She was also a dedicated volunteer with agencies such as: the YMCA, Community Girl’s Home, Family Counseling, Sarnia Housing Authority, Strangway Centre, and Central United Church. Her ongoing commitment to the people of Sarnia was recognized when she was appointed to the Mayor’s Honour List in 2004. More recently, a wing of St. Clair Child and Youth Services was named in her honour, recognizing the fact that she was on the founding board of the Community Girls’ Home.
Lea received exceptional care at Trillium Villa Nursing Home since moving there in 2008, a place where the dedicated caregivers provided Mom with an audience to entertain! Our family would like to acknowledge the staff from Trillium for their consistent compassion and care during our mother’s time there. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 from 3:00-5:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. A memorial service to celebrate Lea’s life will be held at Smith Funeral Home, Sarnia, on Thursday, July 4 at 10:00 am. Cremation has taken place.
Sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Clair Child and Youth Services (cheques only at the funeral home please). smithfuneralhome.ca
