On Sunday, October 20, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia, in her 71st year, surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her parents Leonard and Elva McGuire, youngest sister Connie, and nephew Christopher Nienhuis. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Catherine McGuire of Winnipeg, Patricia (Hank) Nienhuis, Darlene Butcher, and Wilma McGuire all of Sarnia, and her brother William (Mary) McGuire of Dawn Township. Dorothy will also be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews, Derek and Rebecca Nienhuis; Matthew, Edward and Andrew Butcher; and Jennifer (Scott), Heidi (Stephen), Ashlee (Dylan), Natasha (Dave), and Shaylene McGuire. In 1997, after teaching in Sudbury for 35 years, Dorothy retired in Sarnia and enjoyed 16 years of gardening, watercolour painting, and quilting. Her six-year battle with cancer was fought with inspiring courage and dignity. Special thanks to Dr. Glen Maddison and the wonderful nursing staff and volunteers at St. Joseph’s Hospice. It became our second home. Cremation has taken place. Following Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of her friends, neighbours, and family who visited her or sent messages of hope during the last months of her life. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.  smithfuneralhome.ca
