McAteer, Alec Bernard of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, May 12th, 2012, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of 61 years of the late Mildred “Millie” (Tymo) McAteer. Dearly loved father of Wayne (Sandi) McAteer of St. Thomas, Paul (Deirdre) McAteer of London, Marianne (Joe) Gullo of Maple and Paulette (John) Layton of Toronto. Beloved grandfather of Todd, Amberly, Victoria, Matthew, Justin, Dylan and Brett. Loved brother of William McAteer (Morlene) of Mississauga and Robert McAteer (late Shirley) of London. Predeceased by an infant sister Mary Jane. Sadly missed by his cousins and nieces and nephews. Alec was born in St. Thomas on May 27th, 1920, the son of the late Frank and Violet (Swift) McAteer. He retired as a conductor after 41 years of service on the Norfolk and Western Railroad. He was a member of St. Anne’s Church and of the Knights of Columbus. Alec served during W.W.II. He will always be remembered for his zest for life, his love of dancing, his life with Millie and his cherished family.
Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas until Wednesday morning and then to St. Anne’s Church where Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Angels’ Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Restoration Fund of the North America Railway Hall of Fame.
