MAXFIELD picture croppedPeacefully, with his family at his side, Grant passed away at Bluewater Health at the age of 84 on Sunday, June 22, 2014. Grantland Howard Maxfield, son of George Harper (Flip) and Beulah Audrey (Ward) Maxfield was born on January 18, 1930 in Forest, Ontario. Grant moved from Forest to Sarnia to work at Imperial Oil, however he always maintained a love of his hometown and his many friends and relatives there. He enjoyed volunteering his time as a Cub leader at St. Paul’s United Church, bowling with the 445 club, and most importantly, spending time with his family camping and fishing.  Grant fished and boated most of his life and after retiring with 36 years of service from Imperial Oil, he was able to devote even more time to fishing. He leaves behind his First Mate and favourite fishing partner, Marg (Statton), his crew Greg and Sandy, Barb, Ron and Kim, Carol and Alan Butt, David and Wanda. Missing him very much are his fishing protégés Garrett and Debbie, Blair, Justin, Trevor, Blake, Ben, Sarah, Erich, and Jordan.  Waiting for him on heavens dock with the boat motor revving is his grandson Jacob (2012). Grant will forever be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Brother of Lois Harding, Audrey Archer and brother in law of Dorothy Maxfield and sister in law Joan Rundle and her husband Ross. Predeceased by his in-laws Garnet (Shorty) and Willie Statton, his brother Eugene (Gene) Maxfield, his brothers-in-laws Carl Archer and Ted Harding. Grant was very involved with his children and through them, he formed lifelong friendships with many of their friends who he treated and loved like family.  Grant spent many hours cheering on his grandchildren in their various sports. Grant will be greatly missed by his camping family at Cedar Bay Campground, his friends at Cedar Cove Marina and his long time neighbours. Grant will be missed for his wonderful wit, his compassion and his love of music. Thanks to Dr. Spano and Dr. Ali for his longtime care. Many thanks to the nurses who made his stay comfortable and shared in his jokes and hijinx. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Beechwood Cemetery in Forest.
