Barbara Jean Mavin passed away peacefully at Copper Terrace in Chatham with her husband, Hilary Mavin, at her side on Tuesday, December 31st, 2013 at the age of 83.  Born in Brantford to the late William Yeates and Laura Osborne, Barbara was predeceased by her sisters Billie, Helen, and Kay, as well as her brothers James and Dick.  Mother of John and his wife Jacqueline (and grandmother to Katherine and Richard of North Vancouver).  Barbara was also a gifted musician and dedicated teacher.  She became an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto in 1953 and came to Chatham in 1959 to teach music.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1972 and joined the Laudate Dominum Choir in 1974, where she advanced from accompanist to choir director.  She was also the choir director of Christ Church for 25 years and a world traveller.  Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington Street West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 on Friday January 10th visiting from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be conducted from Christ Church, 80 Wellington Street West, Chatham, on Saturday January 11 at 1:30 p.m. with the Ven. Paul Millward officiating.  Interment Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.  On-line condolences may be left at
