ADDISON, Patricia Ellen

Patricia Ellen Malane Addison passed away on the evening of November 29th at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario.

She leaves behind her heartbroken family, including husband Peter Addison, children Andrew and Julia, step-children Rebecca and Tim, and grandchildren Alex, Madeleine, Laura, Zach, Sara and Vincent.

Born on June 17, 1950 to Arthur and Mary Malane (nee Shields), Pat grew up in Oakville where she attended Gordon E. Perdue High School. She studied as an undergraduate at McMaster University, and received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from McGill University.

Throughout her career, Pat was a dedicated force for good. From her early days as Director of Family Therapy at Foothills Hospital in Calgary, through to her retirement as Clinical Director at New Path Child and Family Services in Barrie, Pat was an empathetic practitioner and a leader who worked tirelessly to make the lives of others better.

Pat took a genuine interest in the experiences and opinions of all she met. Friends, relatives, colleagues and even her children’s friends often found themselves engaged in deep conversations with Pat about their lives.

Pat was an avid traveller. Summer vacations included ambitious family camping trips to every province in Canada. And global travel with Peter saw multiple trips to the US as well as countries in Europe, Asia, and to New Zealand.  Pat also enjoyed skiing, biking, book club meetings, yoga, and was a talented gardener.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held between 11:30am – 2:30pm on December 16th at the Barrie Golf and Country Club. In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Barrie Literacy Council where she volunteered, via www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/barrie-literacy-council/.  Messages of condolence can be left at www.peacefultransition.ca
