After a long and difficult illness, Barbara passed away April 24th, 2012, at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.  Born in Toronto in 1927, Barbara (nee Stewart) was the daughter of the late William and Mae Stewart (Sturgeon).  A graduate of Danforth Tech, Barbara worked for Connaught Labs, Toronto; Hamilton Sanatorium and Belleville General Hospital.  Married to Richard (Dick) in 1947 and settled in the Chatham area in 1952.  Extremely devoted to her family, Barbara leaves daughters Donna, Bonnie (Abdullah), Wendy (Heinz), and son Ian.  Three grandchildren; Heather, Emma and Steven.  Sisters Helen Traill and Doris Telfer; sister-in-laws Anne Mearns, and May King (Bruce), and many nieces and nephews.  A life member of the United Church Women, Barbara was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church and an active member of the former Park St. United Church and their unit #7.  An active canvasser Barbara received a 40 year service award from the Canadian Cancer Society.  Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington West, Chatham, 519-352-2710 on Friday April 27th visiting from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  The funeral service will be conducted from the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday April 28th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Perry of St. Andrew’s United Church officiating.  Interment Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.  Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider the charity of their choice in lieu of flowers.  On-line condolences may be left at
