RMaaten PictureWith broken hearts, the family of Richard Peter Maaten announce his very sudden passing peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 8, 2014, while surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 64.  Devoted husband of 40 years of Lynda.  Loving father of Jenna (Michael) Talosi and Ian (Melanie) Maaten.  Cherished grandfather of Jason Ian Maaten.  Beloved son of Janna and the late Pieter Maaten.  Dear brother of Diana Jacob (Jim Rooney), Ken (Pat) Maaten, Sylvia Maaten (Dennis O’Connor), Peter (Janet) Maaten, Jo-Ann (the late Duane) Loyer and the late Mark Maaten.  Loved son-in-law of Helen and the late Donald MacMillan, and brother-in-law of John (Carol) MacMillan, and Lisa (Bill) Tichenoff. Treasured uncle of Jeff Maaten (Christine Walker), Dayna Maaten (Adam Ward), Daniel Walton (Amanda Lougheed), Sarah Maaten (Gavin Giles), Jake Maaten, Brianne Loyer, Janna Loyer, Stephanie MacMillan-Doupe (Kelly), Courtney (Cameron) Mugford, and Emily, Annalise, Alexander and Ethan Tichenoff.  Richard was the Senior Vice President and Associate Portfolio Manager at RBC Dominion Securities. He sponsored many community events such as the Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament, Sarnia Little Theatre, Petrolia Playhouse, Nightingale Chorus, Big Brothers, Huron House Boys Home, St. Joseph’s Hospice and most recently Men Who Cook.  A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at SMITH FUNERAL HOME 1576 London Line, Sarnia with visitation being held from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m.  A private family interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers sympathy expressed through donations to The Canadian Cancer Society, The Kidney Foundation or Big Brothers/Big Sisters would be appreciated by the family.  Memories and condolences may be sent online at smithfuneralhome.ca
