passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 in Chesley, Ontario.  Beloved husband of the late Marjorie (Chittick) (2004).  Loving companion of Lois Ahrens.  Loving father of Marilyn (Robert) Hopkins of Hanover, Carole (Wayne) Rahn of Guelph, Margaret Collier of Guelph, Paul Luckhart (Linda) of Gould Lake and Donna (Gordon) Engel of Bass Lake. Cherished Grandpa of Tami (Peter) Sullivan, Shelley (Scott) Whitmore, Robyn Hopkins, Jennifer (Peter Morden), Sheryll (Mark) Zurich, Janet Rahn (deceased), Carisa (Brad) Crampton, Darin (Jackie) Collier, Dean (Sarah) Collier, Angela (Dennis) Carson, Lesley Fritsch, Erin (Todd) Rettinger, Tyler Thornley and Kaila Thornley.  Great-Grandpa of Dylan, Spencer, Molly, Abbigayle, Lainey, Brody, Quinn, Isaac, Emma, Rachel, Anna, Thomas, Lucas, Joshua, Lena, Grady and Fallon.   Fondly remembered by the Ahrens family and by Pat Luckhart and Don Collier.  Also fondly remembered by his sister, Ruth Luckhart, sister-in-law Evelyn Chittick and brother-in-law Vernon Smith.

Predeceased by sisters Kay (Woodrow) Doerr,  and Earla (Bill) Templin, and by his in-laws, Vickers (Edythe), Lloyd, Garfield (Mary) and Herbert Chittick and Ethel Smith and by son-in-law David Thornley.

Rex was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1916.  He joined the RAF in 1942 and was sent to England from where he flew 46 missions as a navigator on Halifax bombers.  He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and was discharged in 1945.  He most recently received a medal for the Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour from the French government.  Rex returned to Canada after the war, where he and Marjorie raised their family on a farm in Bentinck Township.  He served in municipal politics and retired as Clerk Treasurer of the Municipality of Chesley.  Rex enjoyed fishing, lawn bowling, curling, gardening and playing cards.  But most of all, he loved his family and we will miss him!

Visitation will take place at Mighton Funeral Home in Hanover, Ontario on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 with a Legion Service at 6:45 pm.  Funeral service at St. John’s United Church in Chesley on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.

Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or to the South Bruce Grey Health Centre – Chesley were appreciated as expressions of sympathy.  Register book available at
