Lasenby, Donald Douglas, aged 87 years passed away peacefully January 18, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia, Ontario. Don is survived by his “Princess” and loving wife of 65 years, June, his children Don (Dianne) of B.C., Doug (Nadine), Debbie, Dana (Rick) all of Sarnia, his brother Fred (Marlene) and sister-in-law Betty of London, Ontario. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Jack and Jessie of London, Ontario and his son Danny, daughter Deanna, brothers Jack and Stuart. Don was born and raised in London, Ontario relocating to Sarnia with C.N. and retiring after 50 years of dedicated service. Don also had 40 years of joy driving school bus for Laidlaw and First Student. As an avid softball player, coach and manager he led the Barnes Gravel team to numerous Town and Country League championships in the 1960’s and later in life enjoyed curling in bonspiel play to aid any charity that assisted children. For many years Don was the Welfare Chairman for the Lambton Shrine Club. His passion was assisting families with children requiring specialized medical care to benefit from the Shriners Hospital for children and seeing the joy that followed for the children as they recovered. Over the last few years Don and June enjoyed attending outings with classmates of Don’s Grade 3 class from Boyle Public School, London, Ontario. Don was WWII veteran, member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Past Master of Victoria Lodge No. 56 A.F. & A.M. G.R.C., Past Patron of Order of Eastern Star, Victory #50, Life Member of the Lambton Shrine Club, Member of Lambton Shrine Club Oriental Band, Member of the Lambton Shrine Club Motor Corps, Honourary Life Member Mocha Temple Legion of Honour, Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection, and Perceptory # 37. The family extends their gratitude and sincere appreciation to Dr. Dostaler and Dr. Maddison for their care and compassion during Don’s illness as well as the phenomenal staff and volunteers at the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospice. At Don’s request cremation has taken place. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, ON N7T 7H2, on Friday January 24, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with Victoria Lodge No. 56 conducting a Masonic Service at 5:00 p.m. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
