KOCH, Vern John – The family of Vern John Koch announce his death on Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Peterborough, Ontario. He was born in Lomond, Alberta on June 4, 1923 to Christian Friedrich Koch and Gladys Vernada (Kellogg) Koch. Vern spent his early years on the southern Alberta dry-land farm in the 1930’s.  He was an avid ball player with two of his brothers. Vern was the last member of his family generation.  Predeceased by five brothers; Clifford, Milton, Harold, Donald, and Norris Gale and by four sisters; Vivian(Oakes), Marion (Calvert), Hazel (Williamson) and Doris (Carle).  Vern was predeceased by his first wife Doris (Harp) in 2004, infant son Douglas Vern and daughter Sandra Gail (Lounsbury) in 2007. He was survived by wife Ida Irene (Cooledge) Koch, son Terry Lee and his wife Judy, son-in-law David Lounsbury and wife Rita and Rita’s sons Josh and Jordon, stepsons Floyd, Dennis, and Perry Robertson.  Also survived by grandchildren Cory (Lindsay) and Daniel Lounsbury, Jody (Chad) Routledge, Douglas (Shirley) and Daniel Koch; and step grandchildren Daniel, Lee, Leslie, Richard, Perry, Sherry, Samantha, Rebecca, Amy, Kate and Anna; many great grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins. Vern was a veteran of WWII having served in Belgium and Holland. After the war, he served his apprenticeship in Carpentry gaining journeyman status in 1949.  He supervised a woodworking shop building bank furniture, and later supervised construction projects as a Construction Superintendent in Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario.  In later years, Vern participated in the building of Kingdom Halls in Ontario, Mexico and South Africa with his good friend Fritz Heilngbrunner. Vern was a faithful servant of his God Jehovah, serving as Presiding Overseer of Congregations in Sussex, New Brunswick, and Peterborough, Ontario.  His humility, honesty and sense of humour will be long remembered by many. A Memorial Service was held at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Davis Road, Peterborough, Ontario at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 27th, 2012.
