Hugh Wride Kirby, PhD ’62 (Psychology, U of London) stepped peacefully from time into eternity on May 12, 2014. His memory will be cherished and live on in the hearts of his wife, Heather (nee Fraser), his son, Ron (Sandee) and daughter, Ramona (Jeff ) Robichaud, and his precious grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, Erich and Nicole. He is predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Mae Kirby, sisters, Wilhelmina (N.J.) and Annabelle, brothers, Len, Doug, Warren and Al, of Sarnia. Hugh leaves a legacy of love to each and all of the Kirby, Robichaud and Fraser families.
His was a story of a life well-lived: a grade 9 drop-out in the depression era, Hugh pressed on to fulfill a PhD. An academic to the core, he came to realize that surrendering his life to Christ did not in any way compromise intellect. Rather, his faith meant inner peace and profound strength, centred in love and grace. His dedication to teaching at the universities of Windsor and Guelph, advanced his purpose and passion for mentoring others in life. His most gleeful moments were in fierce games on the tennis court or long strolls on the beach!
A Memorial Service will be held at the Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, 30 Moira Street West, Belleville (613 968-2273 or toll free 877 256-3688) on Saturday, May 31: Visitation 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Service at 1 p.m., followed by a Tea.
