david kernohan 001KERNOHAN, David I., of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in his 84th year. Beloved husband of the late Doreen (nee Bartindale) Kernohan (2001). Dearly loved father of Karen Hodges (Rick), Dave Kernohan (Brenda), and Kevin Kernohan (late Vickie), all of St. Thomas. Cherished grandfather of Amie Butterwick (Rob Gold), Melanie Retberg (Andrew), Chris Hodges, David Kernohan (Nicole), Carrie Kernohan, Amanda Wilkins (Jeff), and Sean Kernohan (Laura). He was proud of his great grandchildren, Katie Plumb (Steve), Mason Butterwick, Emma, Lily, and Isaac Retberg, and his great great grandson, Jack Plumb. Also fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his siblings, Lamoine Lavender, Jean Scott, and Cameron Kernohan. Born in Madoc, ON, October 7, 1930, he was the son of the late David and Alma (nee Van Meer) Kernohan. David was a retired Ontario Provincial Police Corporal, having served at detachments in Whitby (1952-1967), St. Thomas (1967-1984), and Tillsonburg (1984-1985). He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas. David was a member of the O.P.P. Association and the O.P.P. Veterans Association, as well as Lord Elgin Branch #41, Royal Canadian Legion, St. Thomas. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at White Lake Cemetery, R.R.#5, Madoc (date & time to be announced later). A public memorial service to celebrate David’s life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 55 Hincks St., St. Thomas on Monday, May 5th at 11:00 a.m. Flowers graciously declined. If so desired, memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario or Knox Presbyterian Church will be gratefully acknowledged. Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
