Kent, Dorothy Jean (DJ)
DJ was the daughter of the late Harold Frederick Tennant and Isabel Sutherland Tennant. Born in Amherst NS, December 10, 1924, she relocated to Bathurst NB following her marriage to William (Bill) C. Kent DFC in 1949. In 1972 they moved to Lunenburg NS, to Victoria BC in 1984 and in 2016 DJ moved to North Vancouver BC. Sadly, DJ passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at Lynn Valley Care Centre on June 11, 2017 with her three children by her side. Predeceased by her husband Bill in 2006, DJ is survived by daughters Isabel (Craig), Anne and Jean (Mark), grandchildren Marjorie, Eleanor (Andrew), William, Matthew (Skanda), Edward and Quinn, great grandchildren Philip and Alice, niece Barbara and nephew Kent along with numerous cousins and friends. As a youngster, DJ spent many summers at the family cottage at Black Point NS surrounded by her many cousins and other relatives. After her father’s death when she was 15, these extended family networks became even more important to DJ and her mother. DJ attended Netherwood School in Rothesay NB and was a graduate of Mt. Allison University (BA – Hons English) and the Université de Bathurst (BEd). She worked briefly in the Education system and in Real Estate. DJ was extremely active with volunteering, entertaining, golf, curling, bridge, art and music. She was a lifelong learner with a passion for reading and stimulating conversation. An animal lover from her early childhood and influenced by her father’s passion for hunting and fishing, dogs continued to play a big role throughout her life. In winters Bill and DJ often travelled to Florida, Arizona and California and enjoyed many golfing holidays with Bill’s sister, Marnie and husband, Ray. A private celebration of DJ’s life will be held for immediate family on Saturday, June 17 in West Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in DJ’s name to the Alzheimer Society of BC and Parkinson Canada. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to her home care providers in Victoria and to her staff at Lynn Valley Care Centre.
