Johnston, Robert W. ‘Bob’

Robert W. Johnston passed away peacefully, after a long battle with cancer, on March 19, 2019. Bob was born in London, Ontario on May 30, 1933.
Predeceased by his son Chris, his beloved wife for 42 years, Margaret (Peggy,) brother, Ray Johnston, (sister-in-law Cathy,) brother-in-law Jim Nash and stepson, Fred Omstead. Bob will be missed by his daughter, Linda (Brian) Deans and Son, David Johnston, sister, Cheryl Nash, granddaughter, Erin Deans, Grandson Matthew (Danielle) Deans, Grandson, Jamie, (Tatiana), three great grandchildren, as well as his nieces and nephews.
His wife, Maeve, her children: Rev. Laurie Omstead, Leslie Omstead, John Omstead (Shannon,) Tom Omstead (Sue), Shannon Matheson, (Mark) and Stacey Diniro (Jamie) fifteen step children and six step great grandchildren will remember Bob forever. Bob lived on their family farm in the White Oak area of London as a child. He fondly told tales of riding his pony, Queenie to his Grandfather’s General Store. After attending Business College, Bob was the Sales Manager at London Motor Products for 15 years, then at Robert Gordon Company until his retirement. Bob enjoyed being a charming and very helpful Host at The Gathering Place B&B on Pelee Island for eleven years. He was a strong man who ‘fought the good fight’ until his last breath. His wonderful sense of humour and amazing laugh will ring in the hearts of all who knew him. As many of his young relatives recall, Bob was interested in them. He’d inquire about their schoolwork, sports and interests in general. They noted that he actually looked them in the eye and listened to their answers and when he entered a room, joy and a feeling of welcome arrived with him. Bob was a wise man, one of the truly good guys in this world of ours. He so appreciated his close friends, Sandy and Larry McDonald, Nancy and Bob Plumb, Sharon and Bill Plumb, and so many other neighbours and friends. Special thanks to the Staff at the Sun Parlor Home for your care throughout these past few years and for the comforting hospice treatment Bob received before he passed away. Sincere appreciation to Dr. Moncur and the staff on two East. Bob respected each and every one of you. Thank you to the staff at the Reid Funeral Home for your help guiding us through this difficult time.
