JOHNSON: Mathew (Mat) Dillen of Vancouver BC. Sept 20, 1979 – January 1, 2019
It is with great sorrow that we the family of Mathew (Mat) Dillen Johnson announce the sudden death of our beloved son, brother and friend on January 1st 2019 in Vancouver BC. He was 39 years old.
Mathew was a talented artist who portrayed his love of nature and animals through his art. Throughout his life he worked as a bicycle mechanic for Reckless Cycle and then moved into construction where he became an apprentice crane operator.
Mathew had a deep love for animals. He had many beloved pets throughout his life that gave him great joy and cherished companionship. Mat was happiest when he was surrounded by nature and enjoying the outdoors with his family, friends and his pets. He loved biking, hiking, fishing, canoeing, 4x4ing climbing, snowboarding and anything else that involved the mountains, wilderness or water.
Mathew grew up Hope BC, Summerland BC, Oliver BC and Calgary AB.
He leaves behind many family members and friend who loved him and will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his Mother Clare Amanda Durant (Kevin Hemmingson) and father Neil Sheridan Johnson, his son Dillen Garcia-Johnson and his daughter Teegan Michelle Johnson and step-daughter Nike Garcia, his sister Jolene Kelly Johnson (Mike Ha) and his brother Alan Ryan Johnson ( Nicole Schindelka), his paternal grandfather Malcolm DeVerne Johnson, and maternal grandfather Paul le Clair Durant, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
He is pre-deceased by his paternal grandmother Joan B. Johnson and maternal grandmother Virginia Hope Durant.
So many lost days we can never get back.
There will be a camping memorial for Mathew in June held in Manning Park BC.
