Helen died peacefully on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Caressant Care on Bonnie Place, in her 90th year. Beloved wife of Donald I. Houghton for 65 years. Dearly loved mother of Barbara Whidden (late Don) of Edmonton, AB, Gregory Houghton (Sharon) of Kamloops, BC, Sharon Houghton Ross (Allen) of Midland, MI, and Ward Houghton (Sylvia VanHemert) of St. Thomas. Cherished grandmother of Michael (Ashley), Timothy (Michelle), Joshua (Simone), Daniel (Eden), Elise, Colleen, Andrea, Damon, Taylor, Emily, and Aaron. Proud great grandmother of Camille and Isaac. Dear sister of the late Marie Brown (late Gordon). Also fondly remembered by her in-laws and many nieces and nephews. Born in Niagara Falls, ON, June 28, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Lillian (nee Snow) Taylor. Helen was a member of New Sarum Baptist Church. She was very involved at the former Broderick Memorial Baptist Church, St. Thomas, having served as Sunday school secretary, a member of the choir, Ladies Aid, Baptist World Mission Society and the Thirza Lewitt Mission Circle. She was a graduate, staff member, and served on the board at Alma College, St. Thomas. She was a member of the Alma College Alumnae Association. Relatives and friends will be received by the family at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Friday, December 4th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 55 Hincks St., St. Thomas on Saturday, December 5th at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception in Rodney Hall. Interment will be made privately in Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.
