Passed away peacefully of respiratory failure at Windsor Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Campus at approximately 9:00 p.m. on October 23, 2014 at the age of 69. Van was a brother to Duane (Shirley) of Essex; Greig (Geraldine) of Halifax. He was a special uncle to Nicole (Barclay) of Burlington and Amanda (Luc) of Montreal. Great uncle to Quinn and Kahlan; Maude and Anne. He will be missed and remembered by his partner Ronnie Stannard and his adoptive daughter, Rae Ann Copat. Van was a son of Ted (2000) and Jean (1989) Horton. Van was so fortunate to have a second adoptive family, the Mooney’s, who for all these years have held him as a integral part of their family: Joanne (Norm) Hagman, Laura (Mike) Niziolek, Mike Mooney, Colleen (Mike) Ganley, Pat (2000) and Sue Copat (2008). For over 50 years Van was a professional hair stylist, who after many successful years of running his own shops on Pelissier Street, recently enjoyed working out of the Adeo Beauty Salon on Howard Avenue where his faithful clients followed him. Van was stricken on August 22, 2014 with a neurological disease of indeterminate origin, which progressively attacked his various body functions and caused his respiratory failure. He was attended daily by partner Ronnie and brother Duane. The family wishes to recognize the outstanding effort of Dr. Henry Fortuna and the various specialists at Windsor Regional Hospital campuses. The nursing staff and management of 6 North adopted Van into their family and made outstanding contributions to his comfort and care, as well as supporting the family. “Compassion is really Their Passion”; thanks to all.
