hooper Guy paper_edited-1Hooper, Guy

Age 89, passed quietly at home, Tuesday, November 19.  He is survived by his daughter Kim Hall and husband Jay, of Annapolis, Maryland; two grandsons, Bryan, of Annapolis also, and Christopher of Dublin, Ohio.  He is predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, May (Lord).  He is also survived by his older brother Mac Hooper and younger brother Zane Hooper – as well as many nieces and nephews and their children. Guy was a building construction teacher at Kingsville High School for 18 years.  He was born and raised on Pelee Island, and was a man of many interests from wooden boats to the Great Pyramid.  Also a lover of all things Great Lakes, and especially Lake Erie, he often jokingly referred to himself as the “President of Lake Erie”.  The lakes and shipping were in his blood from the time he worked as a very young man during WWII on the lake freighters as a second mate.  He loved Pelee, and returned to live there full time with May after retiring.  And has lived a wonderful life there, filled with nature, and enjoyment of the ever-changing winds and weather of life on an island.  Guy always had  the binoculars at the ready-looking out at the lake.  Guy was above all a spiritual seeker and a student of Christian Science most of his life.  His passion for the pursuit of spiritual knowledge often inspired others as well. According to Mr. Hooper’s wishes, there will be no public memorial service.  The family will be receiving visitors from 1 pm to 3 pm, Saturday, November 23, 2013 – at Reid Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 14 Russell Street, Leamington, Ontario (519-326-2631). A private family gathering will be held on Pelee Island at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Pelee Art Works and the Pelee Island Heritage Centre would be most appreciated. Family and friends are invited to share their words of comfort and remembrance at www.reidfuneralhome.ca
