Orrin Hooktwith died peacefully with his family by his side after a short illness endured with dignity and strength. Predeceased by his wife, of 53 years, Lenora Jean (Gilbert) Hooktwith. Father to Rod & Nancy (Leef) Hooktwith. Loving grandfather to Sam and Max. Older brother to Thelma Lee Parsonnage, and brother-in-law to Barb Gilbert, Jo & Bob Leach, Janet Gilbert and Mac Holmes. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Orrin was born in Wallaceburg on February 16, 1930, son of the late Kline & Gladys Hooktwith. He was a long time resident of Chatham. Committed member and volunteer to local clubs like the Kinsmen, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1692, Chatham, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 185, Blenheim. He devoted countless hours to the Canadian Power Squadron, where he instructed 100’s of Chatham-Kent boaters. Orrin spent many years servicing C-K boaters, working at the Boathouse, Merritt Marine, and Maple City Marine where he bought, sold, and serviced 1000’s of new or used power boats.
He spent his last years enjoying life, travelling between Rondeau, Ontario and Port Charlotte, Florida, making new friends and becoming a Saturday night sensation at karaoke hour bringing Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett to a younger generation.
Family to receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place at the Funeral Home on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with the Ven. Paul Millward officiating. Cremation to follow. The family requests that donations be made in memory of Orrin Hooktwith to the Moose Lodge 1692, Chatham or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 185, Blenheim as both organizations contribute to the local community and do good work for those in need.
