By his side, it is with deeply saddened hearts that the family of Donald John Hicks announces his passing at Charlotte Eleanor Engleheart Hospital of Bluewater Health, Petrolia, on Friday, January 23, 2015, at the age of 86. Beloved husband of 56 years to the late Margaret Kathleen (Keys) Hicks (2006). Survived by one sister Helen Hicks of Toronto and predeceased by brothers; Harold, Shebly, Maynard, Roy, Bruce and sister; Mabel. Loving father to Dawn Gruben (Larry Highfield) of Petrolia, John Hicks (Jill Mortensen) of Corunna and Debbie (Wayne) Kameka of Sarnia. Devoted papa to William (Corey) Gruben of Wyoming, Lindsay (Tyler) Fisher of Hamilton, Haylee Kameka (Stephen Blythe) of Hamilton and step-grandfather to Ryan (Selena) Mortensen, Kyle Mortensen and Kimberly (Jason) Carnahan. Great-papa to Cohen, Evan and Kealey Gruben, Logan Fisher, and Kayleigh Carnahan. Don was a full time dairy farmer for 40 years, sat on the Purity Dairy Board, member of Bluewater Milk Transport, Petrolia Rotary, and Secretary Treasurer of Lambton Holstein Breeders. He was a member of Burns United Church where he was the Sunday School Superintendent and a member of the Cemetery Board. After farming, Don went to school and received his real estate license and was employed by Magic Realty. He was a dedicated volunteer at Vision Nursing Home. Most of all he was a creative story teller to his grandchildren whom he adored. A memorial service and luncheon will be held at a later date for family and close friends. Cremation has taken place. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the charity of your choice.
