It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Katharina Hennings. Katharina passed away peacefully at Grey Gables Nursing Home, Markdale, on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, in her 95th year. Born in Romania, Katharina also lived in Germany, Australia, U.S.A. and Scarborough. She was an avid gardener and animal lover, a survivor of the horrors of World War II, and a very strong woman who became an inspiration to her family. She will be remembered by her children: Margarethe Rodrigues (Sidney) of Scarborough and Rudy Hartmann (Joanne Gainer) of Eugenia. Loving grandmother of Kathy (Don), Vicki (Tony), Andrew (Annie), Dorothy (Chris), Rachel (Ron), Rebecca, Emily and Glenn (Aileen). Missed by great-grandchildren Melissa, Kody, Ryan, Douglas, Meghan, Amy, Andrew, Celena and Donald, as well as great-great-grandchildren Rihanna and Mia. Katharina will be dearly missed by her sister Rosalia Rabe, niece Helga and extended family in Albstadt, Germany, and niece Elisabeth Stein along with her children Renate, Gabrielle, Rita, Yvonne, Steven and extended family in Barrie. Sadly missed by special friends: Veda, Ernest, Shelly and Shandy Harricharran of Richmond Hill; Californians Joe Inkrott, Helga Schultz and Helmut Mueller; her Grey Gables roommate Alma and her family. Predeceased by husband Gerhard, brothers Georg and Josef, and sister Elisabeth. Cremation has taken place. Interment in Barrie Union Cemetery.
