Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 Joan Hay passed away at the age of 74.  Beloved wife of William Cameron Hay. Loved mother  of Lisa Hay ( Paul Musselman), Matt Hay( Liza Barrons) and Gary Hay.  Cherished grandmother to Jack, Georgia, Fiona, Dillon, Emma and Sarah.  Will be missed by her brother Peter Avery (Enid) of England.  Predeceased by parents Jack and Hilda-Mae Avery.  Joan and William  emigrated from England in 1966 to Toronto onward to Gillam, Manitoba and then finally settling to Sarnia in 1970, eventually starting the family business of  Sarnia Engineering.
Joan enjoyed spending time with family and friends, walking under the bridge and Twin Lakes Park and enjoyed her Sunday lunch followed by Ice-Cream. Joan loved to listen to music of every kind, and this love carried on within her children and her Grandchildren. Her consistent guidance and keen, dry British sense of humor gave her family great strength during our lives. She will be remembered by her quick wit and remarkable resilience when faced with any challenge. She will be in our hearts forever as a mother, best friend and confidante.  A heartfelt Thank you to Dr. Dostaler, Dr. Maddison and the lovely staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice.Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 3:00 -5:00 pm at WAGGS RESTAURANT, 420 Christina St. N. Sarnia.
