Norman Harwood pic-picsayOn Sunday, March 3rd, 2013, after a 6 month battle with brain cancer, Norman passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia, surrounded by the love of his family.    Beloved husband for 61 years of Margarett.    Loving father of Michael Charles Harwood, John Norman Harwood, Linda (Dave) Rowlison and Robert Douglas Harwood.   Cherished grandfather of Caleb and Devin Harwood; Brad, Chad (Amy), Nadia (Nathan), Scott, Kaylah and Paige; and Jenna (Eric) Pepers and Jake. Great-grandfather of Cody, Aubree and Rafe.   Survived by his devoted brother Charlie (Ruby) Harwood, and nieces and nephews Jim (Brenda) Harwood, Beth (Dean) Snow, Mary Harwood, Ken (Sylvia) Wood, Ray Wood, Jeff (Lorna) Wood, Brenda and Marlene Wood. Also survived by special friends Dianne Chute and Diane Hughes.    Predeceased by his parents Edith and John Harwood, 6 brothers, and 2 sisters in the U.K. and his special sister Janette (George) Wood.
Norman retired from Imperial Oil after 34 years of service, and spent his retirement travelling, gardening, making wine, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Laurel Lea St. Mathew’s Presbyterian Church.  Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.  A service of thanksgiving will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home with Reverend Rebecca Roushorne-Lau officiating.  Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, followed by a lunch at the Smith Family Center.
The family wishes to thank BWH Palliative Care, St. Joseph’s Hospice and its nurses, P.S.W’s and volunteers, who were so loving and gracious to Norman and our family during his stay. We will always remember the dignity and respect shown to us on his passing. Thanks also to Dr. Glen Maddison, Dr. Monique Dostaler, Dr. Eamon Gamble and Rev. Rebecca Roushorne-Lau for their care and concern.
