Peacefully, on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, David passed away surrounded by his family at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Marjorie.  Loving father to Allan (Cathy Paroschy Harris), Karen (Stuart Douglas Sandercock), Richard (Petra).  Cherished grandfather to Rebecca and Elizabeth Harris, Michael, Alyssa, and Brianne Lachance.  Dave is predeceased by his sister Janet (Jessie) Milliken, brothers William Harris and George (Earl) Harris and by his parents George and Elizabeth Harris. Dave grew up during the Depression as the youngest of four children in a family with no father. This early influence shaped his resourcefulness and ability to come up with creative solutions throughout his life. He began work at age 16 and continued until his retirement from Imperial Oil in 1985. He was an avid outdoorsman and frequently reminisced about canoeing in Algonquin Park, fishing trips across Ontario and deer hunting at the Bruce Peninsula.  He was an active member of St Luke’s United Church and the Numen Lumen and enjoyed curling, square dancing, and music. We will all miss his sense of humour. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 7, 2012, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. A memorial service  will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s United Church, 350 Indian Road S, Sarnia. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Canadian Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva Network (cheques only at the funeral home please). Memories and condolences may be sent online at
