Gregory: Douglas of Burlington, Ontario

Posted by on June 2, 2015

Douglas Gregory PhotoA kind, gentle, loving man filled with laughter and song passed away suddenly with family at his side on May 31, 2015 at the age of 95. He has set sail one last time to reunite with the love of his life, his darling “Skipper” Grace (McGlashon). Quite the pair for 75 years (72 years married) they are now together forever. Beloved big brother to Amelia Elliott. Fun and loving memories will be treasured by his children; Bev Robinson, Kim Gregory (Pam) and Lorraine Robertson, his grandchildren; Tricia Robinson (Rob Hoppa), Sharryl Ochtabienski, Doug and Jessica Gregory and Mark Robertson (Lauren) and his great grandchildren; Katie, Emily, Ben, Ryland, Jacob and Colby. Now reunited with his sister Edna and brothers Ernie and Joseph. A caring, dedicated, hard-working man, he delivered groceries by bicycle in Hamilton at age 9 and went on to serve in WWII stationed in Halifax as a Leading Signalman in the Royal Canadian Navy. An artist by nature, he made it his career in print advertising with Walter C. Thompson and W.L. Griffin Limited. Settling in Burlington to raise his family, he joined the Nelson Volunteer Fire Fighters Association and served for 30 years climbing to the rank of Chief in 1978. Always the master of ceremonies with a million dollar smile, he loved to entertain with a song, recite a little “dittie” (Albert and The Lion) or tell a punny joke. The joy he brought will live on in our hearts. Our handy man, our clown: he made every day brighter. Thanks Dad! We love you so much. Visitation at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Thursday, June 4 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, June 6 from 11 am until the start of a Funeral Service at 12 noon. Reception to follow. Kindly honour him with donations to the World Wildlife Fund, War Amps or a charity of your choice. Please sign the Tribute Wall at kitchingsteepeandludwig.com
