Smith; AliceOn Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Lambton Meadowview Villa, Petrolia, in her 98th year.  Beloved mother of Gini and her husband Bob Newman of Petrolia, grandmother of Alicia Newman of Hamilton, Rheana and Mike Criscione of Toronto, Rob and Nicole Newman of Petrolia, and Alexandra Smith of Toronto, and GG of Audrey and Elise Newman, and Malcolm and Alice Criscione.  Dear sister of Lona Felker of Stoney Creek.  Predeceased by her son Trevor (2001) and her husband of 60 years, Malcolm (2003). Alice was proud to be a breast cancer survivor (20 years).  Alice was the oldest of six children born to the late Everett and Effie Nelson.  She graduated from Saltfleet High School and the Hamilton General School of Nursing (last living member of the class of 38B).  During the war years she was a nurse in a wartime production factory.  Following the war she followed Malcolm as he pursued his education and career, first to Ajax and then to Etobicoke where she was honoured by the Red Cross for her years of volunteer service.  Finally in 2002, she moved to Petrolia to be near family.  Visitors will be received on Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the NEEDHAM-JAY FUNERAL HOME, 4059 Petrolia Line, Petrolia.  A funeral service celebrating Alice’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014 from the Donald V. MaxineHunter (1)Lila Maxine Hunter (Gartley), surrounded by all nine of her children passed away at Kingsmere Retirement Home in Alliston, Ontario on Sunday, January 26th, 2014 at the age of 87. She was born May 26, 1926 in Hamilton, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Francis James (Frank) after 53 years of marriage, her brother Ken Gartley, her daughter-in-law Dianne Hunter, and her grandson Jonathan Hill. Maxine grew up in Strabane and attended Dundas District High School. She worked for Bell Canada before starting her family. She and Frank raised their children in Freelton where she was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League. They later moved to Burlington and then on to Alliston after Frank passed. Maxine is survived by: Marsha Taylor (George) of Vancouver, BC; Paul Hunter (Janet) of Barrie, ON; Gerri Fearman (Doug) of Alliston, ON; Robert Hunter (Mary) of Streetsville, ON; Theresa Schoenfeld (James) of New York City, NY; Marie Clark (Allan) of Vancouver, BC; Joan Hill (Lorne) of Markham, ON; James Hunter (Leanne) of Princeton, NJ; and Elaine Hunter (David) of Vancouver, BC. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren: Justin, Kate, Kim, Andrew, Tammy, Adam, Jill, Adam, Simon, Kelly, Nathan, Matt, Natalie, Carly, Riley, Michael, Katie, Megan, Abigail, Jordan, Cole, Laura, Ethan, Addison, Kate, Kesler. Ring, Brian stat-newsRING, Brian – born in Leeds, North Yorkshire, and most recently of Woodstock,  went to be with God and his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary; on Saturday, January 25, 2014 in Woodstock ,ON.  He is survived by his son Dean, daughter-in-law Diane, grandson Patrick and his son Rory, partner Michelle and grandsons Devon and Simon.  Brian’s career as a Professional Engineer ( Mechanical) engaged him in hydro-electric power production projects around the globe.  He was a committed Christian and was read widely and deeply in theology.  Brian also expressed his deep faith as Bandmaster of the Earlscourt Citadel Band until his retirement.  His interests ranged from music to woodworking, to mastering Thai cooking.  Brian adored his wife Mary, and his family was most treasured to him.  A private family funeral will be held at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington Street, North, Woodstock, ON, and a Celebration of Life Service will take place at the Woodstock Salvation Army Community Church at a date to be announced.  If desired, donations to the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal would be appreciated. Loved father of Tom (Julie), Marilyn, Barbara (Ron) Tomiuck, and Bob (Cindy). Adored by his eight grandsons and seven great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his daughter Judy and his brother Jim. George lived his entire life in Waterdown. Commonly known as Pip, he was loved and respected by everyone who knew him for his humorous stories, quick wit and genuine love of people. Pip developed a real passion for flying during his service with the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. Later he joined the Waterdown Legion and was recently recognized with 50 years membership. He was also a member of the Waterdown Masonic Lodge for 60 years as well as a Past President and member of the Rotary Club of Waterdown with over 58 years in the club. Cremation has taken place. Kenneth CotterillPassed away at Hamilton General Hospital on Sunday, January 19th, 2014, at the age of 85. Beloved husband and best friend of Joan Irene (Faulkner). Joan was the love of his life. Loving father of Valerie (Millen) and her husband Doug, Robert and his wife Veronica. He is survived by his brother Ronald in Australia, brother Clive and sister Gillian in England. Cherished grandfather of Kelly (Matt), Kristen (Chris), Adam, Andrea, Nicole and Kenneth. He also had three great-grandchildren Carter, Kaitlyn and Liam. Ken as he is known to his friends, was an accomplished trumpet player and conductor. He loved to play golf and his newest hobby was wood carving. His work with Kiwanis saw him serve as President of the Flower City Club in Brampton, Lt. Governor of District 7 and Governor of Eastern Canada and the Caribbean. For 19 years he was conductor and arranger of music for the City of Brampton Concert Band. Ken was often playing his trumpet at Strabane United Church in Freelton, and at Remembrance Day services for the local schools. He has received many honours and awards throughout his lifetime, a few of those being Brampton Citizen of the Year and Government of Canada Award. A Private Memorial Service is being held by the family and there will be a public Celebration of his Life at a future date this summer.

Andrew TrushinskiIt is with unbearable sadness that our family announces the sudden passing of a wonderful husband, father, son, and brother.  Surrounded by the love of his family, Andrew passed away in his 32nd year on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.  Devoted husband, best friend and high school sweetheart of Sara (Gregoire).  Andrew’s greatest joy was sharing with Sara in the birth of their two beautiful and cherished sons Joshua (age 3) and Ethan (20 months).  Beloved son of Rick and Ruth Trushinski and son-in-law of Rene and Janet Gregoire.  Dearest brother of Jessica (Josh) and brother-in-law of Lise-Anne (Chad) and Christopher (Emily).  Andrew was a kind, loving, hardworking and generous young man who will be forever missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  Andrew attended St. Mary’s High School and was a member of the senior band; graduated from Mohawk College with and E-business Diploma and, with the support of Sara after their marriage, also acquired his degree from Athabasca University.  Andrew had many hobbies: building guitars, and renovationg his home and family cottage with tremendous talent.  Family and friends will be received at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 1 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 2 p.m.  Reception to follow in the Family Centre.  Donations to a Trust Fund for Joshua and Ethan would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.  Please sign the Book of Condolence at www.kitchingsteepeandludwig.com

Inger Foss-PedersonInger passed away peacefully at Hampton Terrace, Burlington on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.  She is joined together with her husband Arne on the day that would have been their 59th wedding anniversary.  Mom to Pia, Jan (Tanja) and Ann Farquhar (Ed).  She was the proud Farmor to Sara and Mormor to Caitlin and Brad.  Survived by her brother Borge Jensen (Aase).  Inger will be missed by family and friends in Canada and Denmark.  Born in Denmark Inger immigrated to Canada in 1957.  She was always proud to have become Canadian but never forgot her Danish heritage.  A Private Family Service will take place.  The family would like to thank Dr. A. TESSIER, ThereseThe family announces with sorrow, her passing in Sudbury, on Saturday, December 21st, 2013 at the age of 80 years.  Daughter of the late Antonio and of the late Léonie (née Nadeau) Morin.  Wife of the late Alcide Tessier (predeceased in 2008).  Beloved mother of Richard (Sandra) of Callander and Guy (Heather) of Sudbury.  Dear sister of Cécile Pearson (late Jim) of Peterborough, Florent “Lorne” (Helen) of Stoney Creek, Jacqueline Bazinet (late Laurie), Rita Beaulieu (Georges), Rachel Caron (Yvon) and Armand (Yvette) all of Sudbury.  Predeceased by her sister Jeanne d’Arc Rochon (late Isidore) and by her brothers Donald (Réjeanne of Sudbury) and Jean-Guy (Monique of Sudbury).  Proud grandmother of Jason, Céline, Jaime and great-grandmother of Kayla, Owen and Brody.  Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.  The family will receive relatives and friends at St-Jean-de-Brébeuf Church for a mass of Christian burial on Monday December 30th, 2013 at 10 a.m. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the  COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, Sudbury. DODSON, James Russell, passed away in his home, as he wished, on Friday, December 27, 2013 in his 89th year. James was born and practiced law in Hamilton, Ontario, but was a long time resident of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Predeceased by his wife Laura, James supported her dedicated and philanthropic efforts to preserve the Town’s historic assets.
