frances livingstone 001LIVINGSTONE, Frances A. “Fran”, of St. Thomas, formerly of Hamilton, passed away peacefully at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Thursday, August 14, 2014, in her 68th year. Loved sister of Robert B. Livingstone Q.C. (Lynne), Mary Kay Livingstone, all of London, and Richard G. Livingstone (Susan) of Kitchener. Dear aunt of Jason Livingstone (Stephanie), Jeffrey Livingstone (Michelle), Ryan Livingstone, Michael Livingstone, and John Livingstone. Proud great aunt of Ashlee, Wyatt, Clara and Ariella. Dear niece of Kathleen Wyman, Marion and Ernie Hardy, Donna McKeown, and Maureen McKeown. Also fondly remembered by several cousins. Frances dearly loved her cats, Parker, Patience and Patches, her constant companions. Born in St. Thomas, September 26, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Dr. J. A. “Frank” and Jean (nee McKeown) Livingstone. Frances embarked on her teaching career in 1969 with the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, where for over 35 years she inspired students and teachers alike. Even in retirement, she continued teaching part-time, and proctored exams at her alma mater, UWO. She was a member of the Retired Teachers of Ontario. Frances was the proud recipient of the Queen’s Medal on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Accession of her Majesty the Queen, and the Commemorative Medal for the 125th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada in recognition of significant contribution to compatriots, community and to Canada. She loved to travel and quilt, and donated many handcrafted items to her favourite charities. Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Sunday afternoon, August 17th from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) where the funeral service will be held on Monday, August 18th at 11:00 a.m. Following cremation, private interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to Animal Aide gratefully acknowledged.

Obituary

BIRK, Marge – Passed away peacefully in Brussels, Belgium on June 4, 2014, with her husband of 44 years at her side, after a long struggle with ovarian cancer.  Born Margret Süske on January 29, 1950, in Bodenwerder, Germany, she emigrated in 1957 to Edmonton, Alberta then, after marriage in 1969, lived in Kingston, Sudbury, Hamilton, Calgary, Sydney (NS), Oakville and Vineland, gathering friends everywhere.  She is survived by her husband, Dieter, three daughters Cassandra, Marcella and Heidi as well as her mother, Margarete in Heritage Village and her father Eberhard at the United Mennonite Home.

We thank the oncologists, and nurses of the Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton, ON. and Universitair Ziekenhuis, Brussels for their care and compassion during her epic battle.  The cancer did not defeat her beauty, grace and courage. She inspired Ovarian cancer patients, world-wide as the Warrior Queen. Cremation took place in Brussels, to be followed by private family arrangements in  Vineland, Ontario.

Stewart, TomSTEWART, Thomas Russel “Tom” – Passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in his 81st year, after attending a retirement party near Milton, ON.  During his years as a long distance truck driver, Tom acquired many, many friends and acquaintances all over North America.  He was the last surviving member of his family.  Tom was an avid collector of everything old, odd and unique.  Cars, trucks,  tractors, toys and various other items of interest to many.  As a known authority on vintage autos, and a member of almost every vintage collectable club, he was often asked to provide information to hobbyists with similar interests.  For more than 50 years, Tom’s red, 1909 Ford Model “T” was a familiar sight in Woodstock’s Victoria Day parade. Friends will be received at Old St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 723 Dundas Street, Woodstock on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 12 noon until 12:45 p.m.  A complete funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Archdeacon Richard A. BENNETT, Brad – It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing, on June 13th, 2014, at age 53. Loving partner of Tammi Stanhope, dear son of Sandra Bennett, father of Chase (Jimmy), Garrison (Emily), and Sarah, and brother of Warren. Dear uncle of Cole, Luke, Keziah, and Wesley Bennett. Long time locomotive engineer at VIA Rail, former police officer with the OPP and Metro Toronto Police. Will be missed by many very good friends and extended family. Brad was a founding member (along with surrogate brother Charlie Powell) and President of FOG, and member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Brad loved nothing more than getting together with friends and family, and was always at the centre of the crowd, keeping everyone entertained with his jokes and stories. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 20th, 2014 at ‘The Wing 447’, 3210 Homestead Road, Mt. Hope, Ontario (**please note the change in location). Loving mother of Manley (Gail) Coburn of Markdale, Doug (Linda) of Toronto, Raymond (Pat Genoe) of Markdale, John (Nancy) of Holland Centre, David (Ann) of Hamilton, Gordon (Theresa) of Wiarton, Jane Calder (Jim) of Peterborough, Donald (Kathy) of Berkeley, Marlene Harwood (Ken) of Owen Sound and Robert (Catherine) of Owen Sound. Special grandmother of 28 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Survived by brother William Clark of Eugenia.
