Peacefully at Alexander Place, Waterdown on Monday, April 13, 2015, Althea Carey in her 87th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband Jack (1999) and their loved son Byron (2007), and her sister Mary Bransfield (2006) and her brother Gilbert Orser (1945). Althea is sadly missed by her sons Glenn of Hamilton, and Doug and Nanci of Paisley. Fondly remembered by her grandchildren Kristyn, Ryan, Rose and John. He passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side at the age of 92. Loving husband of Pietje (Pauline) for 67 years. Devoted father to Andrew and Alide Kooistra, Bonnie and the late Craig (2005) Kissack, Jane and Jack Jagt, Gerty and Phil Metzlar, Rick and Lydia Kooistra and Bill and Jane Kooistra. Cherished Pake to 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his three brothers Gerrit, Paulus, and Cor, and survived by his sister Janny Telgenhof and sister-in-law Geertje Vandervelde. Also missed by his many nieces and nephews. PoppyJEFFREY, Allan “Nick”, of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in his 95th year. Husband of the late Marjory Jeffrey (1961) and the late Freda Jeffrey (2004). Lovingly remembered by his son, Bruce Jeffrey of Hamilton, his step-son, Robert “Bob” Yorston (late Sonde) of St. Thomas, and by his step-daughters, Barbara Fox (David) of Grand Bend, and Patricia Lodge (late Tom) of Calgary, AB. He will also be fondly remembered by 11 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, as well as several in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Allan was the last surviving member of his own immediate family, having been predeceased by his siblings, Alex, Anne Woodall, Alice Howsam, Aynsley, Walter, and Foster. Born in Lancashire, England on April 3, 1920, he was the son of the late Andrew and Doris (nee Marsh) Jeffrey. Allan was raised in Watford, ON and graduated from Watford District High School. He was one of the oldest surviving World War II veterans (RCAF) from the Watford area and was a retired mechanical engineer with General Steel Wares, London. Cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at the St. Thomas Cemetery, West Avenue at a later date. NEAL, Bevan M., of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Saturday, March 21, 2015, in his 90th year. Father of Marianne Powell (Richard) of Calgary, AB, Mark Neal (Kathy), Marty Neal (Dianne Donald), and Mike Neal (Dina Juric), all of St. Thomas. Grandfather of Tracy Powell, and Scott Powell, both of Calgary, AB, Josh Neal (Tammy) of St. Thomas, and Justin Neal of Hamilton. Brother of Bob Neal (Barbara) of London. Also survived by three great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bevan was predeceased by his dear partner, Shirley Larson. Born in St. Thomas, February 23, 1926, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary (nee McNea) Neal. During the Second World War, he served overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy. Bevan was a retired tool grinder at Canadian Timken, St. Thomas. He was a member of Lord Elgin Branch 41, Royal Canadian Legion, St. Thomas. Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Friday evening, March 27th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 11:00 a.m. Following cremation, private interment will be made in Elmdale Memorial Park. AggusBorn on November 13, 1919 and died peacefully on March 18, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas Ont. She is survived by her sons, Robin (Marilyn) and Kent (Gail) and granddaughter, Caome. Beloved wife of Donald Aggus (1920 – 2007). Born in Edmonton to the late Charles Fleming and Bertha (Nordstrom), she is survived by her sister-in-law Sylvia Tomlinson of Hamilton and her many nieces and nephews. Education was her passion, expanding her knowledge to help others. Mary was a teacher of primary education and began her career at age 20 in a one room schoolhouse in Alberta. She retired as a Primary Consultant with the Hamilton Board of Education in 1984 and distinguished her career by completing her Doctorate of Education at the University of Toronto in 1994 at age 75. Mary and Don were enthusiastic travelers, camping with their sons across Canada and Europe when they were young and exploring more of Europe, Asia and the South Pacific in their later years. Mary also taught Sunday school for many years at Rock Chapel United Church. A firm believer in social justice she devoted much of her time with the United Church, sponsoring immigrant families and supporting charities through the Eastern Star. She had an open minded approach to life and humanity. Mary will be greatly missed by her proud family, as well as the many people she influenced throughout her life. We wish to thank all of those who cared for her over the last eight years, especially the wonderful staff at the Villa. A celebration of her life will take place at Rock Chapel United Church, 451 Rock Chapel Road, Dundas Ont. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 2 p.m. followed by refreshments.

ANDY STEEGSTRA, of Petrolia and formerly of Hamilton, was in his 63rd year.   Andy is survived by his son Nick Steegstra, his daughter Hannah Perks, his sister Susan and her husband Don Farrar, his nieces Melanie MacKenzie and Emily and Mike Prangley, and many cousins and friends. Andy was predeceased by his parents Sjoerd (1967) and Boukje (1997) Steegstra. Andy worked as a second class stationary engineer for 30 years at Canadian Waste in Hamilton. Helen will be forever missed by her devoted husband of 64 years, Bill Wighton. She was the loving mother of Dan (Jan), Jim (Moia), Bob (Sharon), Debbie (Ron Raes), the late Greg (Margaret), Mark (Mary Anne), David (Joe Chetcuti) and Mary Beth (Dawn Baxter).  She was the cherished grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Helen is also survived by her brother, Ron (Mary) Moran, in-laws Don (Norma) Wighton, Alex Wighton and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Jeanette (Noyle) Moran, her sisters Jean (Chuck) McRitchie, June (Bill) Shortt and her brother Bill (Connie) Moran, her son Gregory (2010), her twin sons Peter and Paul (1964) and her grandson Dustin (1984).

Helen was born in Mooretown, Ontario. She was a founding member of St. Benedict Parish and an active member of the C.W.L.and Strangway Centre. She worked as a legal secretary for many years.  She loved gardening, knitting, reading, travelling, playing cards and most importantly, spending time with her family, leaving them enriched with wonderful stories and heartwarming memories.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the excellent care received by Dr. Kolano, Dr. Gannon, and the caring staff at Vision Nursing Home.

Family and friends will be received at D.J. Robb Funeral Home on Monday, March 9, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. where prayers will be offered at 8:00 p.m.

Dear mother of Joyce Nisbet (Bruce), Ken (Faye), Janice Walker (Earl), Jim (Lorie), Anne Donkers (Frank), Brenda Stewardson (Jeff), and an infant son who passed away in 1948. Loving grandmother of 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her brothers Howard, Calvin, Lyle, Hugh, Charlie, Ken and by her sister Mary. Sister-in-law to Iris Hunter and Phyllis Hunter. Norma will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Norma was a life member of the Rockton Women’s Institute, held many offices, also lead 4-H Homemaking Clubs for years. Life member of the Rockton Agricultural Society, and also a member of Rockton United Church. Recieved an Ontario Volunteer Service award. Enjoyed many years sewing, knitting and quilting. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 p.m and 6-8 p.m. at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown, where a Funeral Service will take place on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 11 a.m., with a reception at the Rockton Fairgrounds Hall, 812 Old Highway 8, Rockton. smithphyllisweb In the comfort of her home, after a brief illness, PHYLLIS HOPE SMITH passed away in Sarnia on Feb. 20, 2015 at the age of 84.  She was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Tom “Bing” Smith (2008).  She will be greatly missed by her children: John (Brenda), Mary-Anne (Steve Tower), Richard (Robin), Carolyn (Brent Armstrong), and Catharine.  Beloved Grandmother to: Christine, Justin, Jennifer (Paul), Tara, Aaron, David (Olivia), Colleen (Ali), Danielle, Scott, Paul, Sarah (Justin), Jordan, Adam, Deirdre, and Gillian. Loving Great Grandmother to: Ethan, Norah, Madeline, and Charlotte.  Dear sister to: Ivy, Harry and late sisters May and Alice.  Mom will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature not only with her family, but to those less fortunate.  She volunteered regularly for the Inn of the Good Shepherd and often showed up with an extra bag of groceries.  She was a member of Laurel-Lea St. Matthews Presbyterian Church for 32 years and lifelong member of the WMS. A memorial service will be held at Laurel-Lea St. Matthews Presbyterian Church (837 Exmouth St. Sarnia) on Tuesday at 2:00 with visitation one hour prior to service time.  In lieu of flowers as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to her favourite charities, the Salvation Army or the Inn of the Good Shepherd.  Arrangements entrusted to the D.J. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Joseph Wellington (2013) and loving mother of Richard Wellington and his wife Betty of Corunna, Dr. Jocelyn Wellington of London, Stephen Wellington and his wife Debbie of Corunna and Scott Wellington and his wife Nordean of Sarnia, grandmother of Lynett Jones and husband Bart, Nicholus Wellington, Erin Wellington and husband Eric Hall, Peter Wellington, Samantha and Shea Wellington, great-grandmother of Griffin and Parker Jones, sister of Shirley Day of Dorchester and George Quinn and his wife Janet of Thamesford. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Ruth assisted with her husband Joe with his veterinary practice in Lambton County for over 35 years. Funeral services will be held from the D. J. At Afton Park Place on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, JOHN EVENDEN BOWLES, age 84 of Sarnia passed away. He was the loving husband of Gerda Hooles and the late Helen Bowles (1986) and dear father of Derek Bowles and his wife Tessa, grandfather of Jessica, Cameron, Nicole and Eric and great-grandfather of Elexis and brother of Peter Bowles in England. He was predeceased by his son Raymond. John was born in England and served with the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment of the British Army during WW II. He moved to Canada and he retired from Shell Canada after many years of service and was a member of the 4T’s Camping Club. At John’s request there will be no services and cremation will take place. His ashes will be interred at Lakeview Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the D. J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre. Dearly loved wife of Alex for 39 years and devoted mother to Laura (Keith) Feil of Fergus, Craig (friend Donna) of Guelph and Kirk (Lyndsay) of Binbrook. Proud grandmother of Kole and Ava Feil and Abigail and Anna McDonald. A loving daughter to Helen and the late Walter (1990) Edwards and sister to Marlene (Ken) Goodhand, Barb (Brian) Lehrbass and the late Beverley (2009) (Ken) Timmermans. Sister-in-law to Christine Scott, Mary Ford, Ruth Scott, Joe McKay and Pete and Pam McDonald. Sharon is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. She will be fondly remembered by her friends, neighbours and RBC colleagues. Sharon fought her brief battle with pancreatic cancer with admirable strength and determination.
