GROULX, EstelleSurrounded by her family, Estelle passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013. Beloved wife of Pierre Groulx, (predeceased in 2007), and daughter of the late Philéas and Yvonne Barbeau (née Leblanc). Survived by her children, Michel of Calgary and Micheline of Coniston. Predeceased by her brothers Alfred, Gérald (Claire), Émile (Pauline), Philippe (Jane) and Victor. Survived by her sisters Thérèse Sandul (late Jim), Soeur Laura Barbeau, s.c.o. of Ottawa, Rose-Marie Barbeau-Quinn (late Michael), and brothers Roger (Arlene) and André. A special aunt, great-aunt and godmother to many nieces and nephews in the Groulx and Barbeau families. Born and raised in Sudbury, Estelle attended “Rideau Convent” in Ottawa in the 1940s. She then studied at the St Elizabeth School of Nursing (class of 1951). After graduating, she earned a reputation as a caring and highly skilled RN at the old St Joseph’s Hospital when it was managed by the Grey Nuns. She also worked in the office of Dr. Friedrich “Freddy” Foerster, at the Sudbury Clinic and did private duty nursing. Estelle and Pierre married in 1958 and adopted the twins in June 1961. Her children were her pride and joy. A multi-talented woman, she excelled in knitting, crocheting, sewing, weaving and tatting. A marvelous cook, Estelle’s baking skills shone and were appreciated at all family gatherings. She and Pierre travelled to Cuba several times and the Cuban people held a special place in their hearts. Estelle’s children wish to thank the staff and volunteers of the Northeast Cancer Centre, the North East CCAC and Meals on Wheels. Our heartfelt gratitude to Maison Vale Hospice, PSW Sheila Scott (We Care), Terry McMahon and Jason Coulombe of Pharmacie Bradley and to family physician Dr. Guy Mongeon for their exceptional care and services. Resting at the Co-Operative Funeral Home, 222 Lasalle Blvd. on Tuesday July 16th, 2013 from 2-5 and 7-9:30 p.m.  A long-time member of Les Dames de la Paroisse and of the church choir, Estelle’s funeral mass will be celebrated at Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci church, 38 Edward Avenue in Coniston on July 17th, 2013 at 11 a.m. Donations to Maison Vale Hospice (by cheque only) may be made in Estelle’s memory. Our mother demonstrated dignity and grace during her illness. She will be missed.
