A special aunt, great-aunt and godmother to many nieces and nephews in the Groulx and Barbeau families. Born and raised in Sudbury, Estelle attended “Rideau Convent” in Ottawa in the 1940s. She then studied at the St Elizabeth School of Nursing (class of 1951). After graduating, she earned a reputation as a caring and highly skilled RN at the old St Joseph’s Hospital when it was managed by the Grey Nuns. She also worked in the office of Dr. Friedrich “Freddy” Foerster, at the Sudbury Clinic and did private duty nursing. Estelle and Pierre married in 1958 and adopted the twins in June 1961. Her children were her pride and joy. A multi-talented woman, she excelled in knitting, crocheting, sewing, weaving and tatting. A marvelous cook, Estelle’s baking skills shone and were appreciated at all family gatherings. She and Pierre travelled to Cuba several times and the Cuban people held a special place in their hearts. Estelle’s children wish to thank the staff and volunteers of the Northeast Cancer Centre, the North East CCAC and Meals on Wheels. Our heartfelt gratitude to Maison Vale Hospice, PSW Sheila Scott (We Care), Terry McMahon and Jason Coulombe of Pharmacie Bradley and to family physician Dr. Guy Mongeon for their exceptional care and services.
