Peacefully, with family by her side, Betty (Mabel Elizabeth) Graham passed away on Friday, August 10th, 2012 at Twin Lakes Nursing Home at the age of 87. Betty will be sadly missed by her sister Nettie Sokol and Nettie’s children, Paul, Jim,  Carol Haight, and Jane Kennedy.  She will also be missed by her brother Red (Eric), his wife Eva and their children, Linda Thomas and Kathryn.  She is also survived by her brother Bob and his children, Dean, Dale and Joe, and by her sister-in-law Barb Graham and her children, David, Michael, and Charlaine Scott.  Aunt Betty will be sadly missed by her many great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents Sam and Jennie Graham, her brother Orkey (John Edward), brother-in-law Andy Sokol, sister-in-law Mary Graham and nephew Danny Graham.  Betty (don’t ever call her Mabel) was a very proud life-long resident of Point Edward until moving to Twin Lakes in 2008.  She was the organist at Point Edward United Church for 65 years.  Betty was known for her cooking and baking, she made the best apple pies and butter tarts in the world.  She was one of the few who walked across both of the Blue Water Bridges when they opened, the original in 1938 and the new bridge in 1997.  Betty worked for many years at Autolite (Prestolite) and Sears.  Betty was a generous, kind and caring friend and neighbour and was known to many as simply Aunt Betty.  Everyone should be fortunate enough to have an Aunt Betty in their life.  She will be greatly missed.  Everyone is invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, August 19th at 3:00 pm at the Point Edward Community/Optimist Hall which will be followed by a social gathering where we can all share our favourite Aunt Betty stories.  A special thanks to the staff at Twin Lakes Nursing Home for the loving care and attention they provided to Betty.  Sympathy donations to the charity of your choice are appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to D.J. Robb Funeral Home & Cremation Centre.  As per Betty’s wishes, there will be no visitation – cremation has taken place.
