Sharp George Paper copyGeorge Oliver Sharp “Ollie”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great, great grandfather and brother on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the age of 90 years.  Ollie’s two loves were his family and farming. He was a dedicated farmer and a respected grower in the Leamington area, a livelihood which spanned eight decades. He lived on the family farm his entire life, taking over George Sharp and Son from his father, and later partnering with Sharp Farms and United Plant Farm. He and wife Betty developed The Ponds RV Park. Ollie was an inventor of unique machinery.  He built and could refurbish just about anything. In his younger days, Ollie served his community through his church (Olinda United), was a member of the local school board and on the Sun Parlour Growers’ Co-Operative.  He was a member of the Leamington Kiwanis Club for over fifty years. Predeceased by his parents George and Violet Sharp.  Beloved husband of Elizabeth (Johnson) Sharp. Cherished father of the late Marcia Dobson (2011) (Dave), Marla Ward (Brian), Maria Kovacs (Les), Mary Dick (Larry), Margret Kennedy (Chris), and Marion Goyette (Alan).  Stepfather of Richard Johnson (Dodi), Cathy Hazael (Brian), Jeff, Chris and the late Mark Johnson (2011). Loving grandfather of Sally, the late Susan (2002), Syndee, John, Shannon, Jay, Ben, Sara, Brandon, Matthew, Erin, Emily, Oliver, Elizabeth, and Max. Step-grandfather to Lauren, Darryl, Gillian, Alexa, Melissa, Matthew and Amanda.  Seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren also survive.  Loving brother of Marion (the late Edgar Dyck) and (the late Herbert Gregory), the late Jean Bruner (2010) (the late Bruce), and Nancy Wilkinson (Don).  Husband for 24 years to Melba Anita Sherman (2009).  We will forever see Dad in the greenhouse watering seedlings, his muddy boots on and his huge thumb held over the end of the hose creating a perfect spray that was more effective than any nozzle you could purchase. He was loving, caring and compassionate. He will be greatly missed.  In keeping with Ollie’s wishes a family graveside service will take place.  The family wishes to invite family and friends to an Open House at Colasanti’s Tropical Gardens, 1550 Road 3 East Kingsville on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 3 to 6 p.m. to share memories and celebrate Ollie’s life. Memorial donations may be made by cheque to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.  The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Russell, Dr. Moncur, Thompson Guardian Drugs, CCAC, and the staff on 2E at Sun Parlor Home. Friends may send condolences or make a charitable contribution online at
