Passed away peacefully on July 4, 2012 at the age of 87. Devoted husband to his sweetheart, Eileen, for 63 years. Loving “Pop” to Gloria, Marion and Robert (Donna Cooper 2009). Proud Grandpa to Carlee, Timothy and Jessica. Pre-deceased by his parents Michael (1968) and Katharina (1988) and his sister Katherine Wirth (2011). Brother-in-law to Joyce Brunke and Doris Green (2003). Mike and Katherine travelled to Canada from Birk, Romania in 1935 to join their parents who had immigrated several years earlier. Mike was in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1943 to 1946, stationed in Nova Scotia. After discharge from the service, he worked as a pattern maker subsequently becoming a partner at Industrial Models Limited, retiring in 1979. Mike was a founding member of the Windsor Light Opera (WLO) and holds the distinction of having sung the first solo, in the first WLO production. Mike enjoyed fishing with his buddies, good conversation, gardening, Blue Jays games and following the stock market. For many years enjoyed wintering in Homosassa, FL with the Brantford gang. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 594. Special thanks to CCAC; Red Cross PSWs’ Anna, Kyle and Scott; St. Elizabeth Health Care nurses Linda and Sylvia; 6th north staff at Windsor Regional Hospital and most recently the staff at Brouillette Manor for the excellent care and compassion given to Mike in his final weeks. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation. Cremation has taken place.
