It is with deepest regrets that Ian and Elaine Gates of Chicago and Kathryn and Brian Dryburgh of Oakville announce the passing of Ian’s and Kathryn’s father Bruce (Hawkeye) Gates on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia.  Bruce was the devoted son of the late Ede (2011) and Jim (1999) Gates. Grandfather of Morgan, Brooke, Alyssa, Lauren, and Justine.  Bruce will be missed by Amanda and Reg Musclow and their children Rylie and Graeson, and Maureen Harmer and Joseph Gumpoldsberger.  Nephew of Inez and Dr. Ed Burran and Grace Duffield. Bruce is also survived by his sisters and brothers Gretta and Howard Ireland, Elizabeth and David Graham, Sam Dennis, Sharon and Vidal Mills, Edith-Ann and Ole Lodberg, Normajean and Allan White and the late Joyce Dennis, John Dennis and Billy Percival.  Bruce will also be missed by his many Gates family cousins, his Duffield family cousins, his nieces and nephews and his extended family of friends and neighbours.  Special thanks to the Staff of the St. Joseph’s Hospice for their wonderful care and to all of Bruce’s family and friends who stepped forward to look after his personal matters and the support he received while at the hospice.  Bruce was a past Commodore of the Sarnia Yacht Club, Owner and CEO of Hawkeye Cranes as well as a longstanding member of L793, and member of the Point Edward Optimist Club and the Ex-Servicemen’s Assn.  Hawkeye, by his own accord, was not the greatest sailor, but he was a great swimmer!  A visitation will be held at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Friday, May 4, 2012, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.  A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at the Point Edward Ex-Servicemen’s Assn., 503 Michigan Ave., Point Edward, on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. (reception following service).  Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice, 475 Christina St. N., Sarnia,  N7T 5W3 (cheques only at the funeral home please).
