Passed away peacefully surrounded by his girls on October 13, 2014 at Hospice of Windsor at 91 years of age following a brief illness. Devoted husband of the late Mary (2013). Cherished father of Anne Fischer, Eva Chin (Richard), Christine Scott (Ian) and Lisa Gaspar (Jeff). Adoring grandfather of Kim Fischer, William and Trevor Chin, Logan and Taylor Scott and great grandfather of Alec Gaspar. Survived by sister Elizabeth Scherer. Also welcomed to Heaven by parents John and Eva Freisinger and son-in-law Doug Fischer. He will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Steve will be remembered for his years of customer service at Sarnia Glass, Remington Hardware, Service Hardware and, after “retirement”, his years at Beaver Lumber. Steve enjoyed time with his family at their summer home at Wildwood by the Lake and their winter home at Siesta Key Florida where he managed to find renovation projects to keep him busy. Steve and Mary took many family vacations across Canada and the U.S and enjoyed traveling to Germany, Austria, Romania and Australia to visit relatives. Steve was always a gentleman and during his brief illness he always thanked everyone who helped him and all who came to visit.
Special thanks to the caring staff and volunteers at the Hospice of Windsor especially Dr. Bergeron. Sincere thanks to the physicians and nurses at University Hospital in London, Neurology unit, Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette and Metropolitan Campuses, V.O.N. nurses and PSWs especially Jeff that provided in-home care.
In lieu of flowers donations to V.O.N or Hospice of Windsor would be appreciated by the family.
