Fererra Picture0000001APassed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the age of 74. Born in Vicalvi, Italy, Joe was the youngest child of Orazio and Marietta Ferrera. He came to Canada in 1959. He returned to Italy in 1963 and in 1964, married Pietrina, the love of his life for 50 years. Together they returned to Canada to start a new life. Joe began working at Holmes Foundry for a few years and then worked for Maaten Construction for 15 years. Joe’s favourite hobby of making concrete ornaments led him to start his own business, Ferrera Concrete, which he owned and operated for 45 years. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren who gave him much joy. He also enjoyed socializing with his friends at the Dante Club Bocciofila. Joe was an active member of Local 1089, Holy Rosary Society, Dante Club, and the Pensioners Club of Sarnia.

Loving father of Rita (Rocco) Benacquista. Cherished Nonno of Anthony, David, Jessica, Stephanie, Kaitlyn and Rachel. Dear brother of Olimpia (late Vincenzo) Caschera, Giovanna (late Vincenzo) Polsinelli, and brother-in-law of Claudio (Rita) Iafrate. Survived by his mother-in-law Maria (late Antonio) Iafrate. Joe will be forever loved and remembered by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy. Predeceased by his parents Orazio and Marietta Ferrera, brother Silvio (Anna) Ferrera, sister Antonia (Carmine) Mantova, and infant sister Caterina.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, May 9, 2014, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, with prayers being offered at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Entombment to follow in Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
