Hillie Ellens (nee DeVries) was called to her eternal home where she was welcomed by her Lord and Saviour on January 24, 2015, in her 84th year at St. Joseph’s Hospice after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born October 5, 1931 in Oldekerk, Groningen, The Netherlands. Beloved wife of Gordon Ellens for 50 years. Predeceased by her first husband Tjibbe Deelstra in 1962. Loving mother of Anne Deelstra and Derrick McNamara, Audrey and Joe Ysebaert, Jean Deelstra and Harinderpal Nijhar, Ted and Gigi Deelstra, Jim and Tina Deelstra. Loving grandmother to 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Loved by the Deelstra family: Herb and Riek, Ralph and Alice, Pauline, Frances Dykema, Henry and Maureen, Arnold and Anne, Alie and Harry Giethoorn, Jane and Gary Kroesbergen, Bonnie and John VanKesteren, and Margaret and John Hopman. Predeceased by John Deelstra and Hank Dykema. Loving sister of Jan and Stien DeVries, Jantje Van Niejenhuis, Lena DeVries, Feitze van Zwol, and Wieny DeVries all of The Netherlands, Frances DeBoer and Geziena Voogd. Predeceased by Dienko van Niejenhuis, Gerrit DeVries, Hendrika van Zwol, Dirk DeBoer, Jack Voogd, and Alie DeVries.  Loving sister-in-law of Lora Ellens, Auke and Addy, Trudy and John Brouwer, Frances and Gerald Rhebergen, Joan and Peter Kapteyn, Teresa Beute, Agnes and Cor Kamerman. Predeceased by Pieter, Eke and Kees Vanderkreeke, Alice and Anthony VanDyke, Mark Moesker and Jake Beute.  Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.  Hillie touched the lives of many who were blessed by her joyful spirit and strength of character. She was a faithful member of First CRC, and focused her volunteering doing Meals on Wheels with the Red Cross for 45 years.  A special thank you to Dr. Maddison, Dr. Crombeen, and the caring staff and volunteers at St. Joseph’s Hospice. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Interment for family and friends will take place on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at the Wyoming Cemetery with Pastor Poelman officiating. A celebration of Hillie’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at First CRC, 1105 Exmouth Street, Sarnia.   In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to Sarnia St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia Christian School, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
