DYKE - cropped squareAfter a long courageous battle of nine and a half years with cancer, on Saturday, July 12, 2014, William “Ross” Dyke passed away peacefully at the age of 69 at St. Joseph’s Hospice.  Beloved husband and best friend of 44 years of Patricia Dyke.  Loving father of Travis (Michelle Laird) Dyke, Leonard (Carla) Dyke, and Marianne (Todd) Woolaver.  Ross was a very proud papa to his grandchildren, Zöe Northcott, Austin Dyke, Katie-Marie Woolaver, Morgan Dyke, and Savanna Woolaver.  Dear brother of Connie Prior.  Fondly remembered by aunts, uncles, cousins and several nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his parents Zella and Leonard Dyke; by his mother and father-in-law George and Caroline Sharen; by his nephews Glen Prior and Dave Blair; by his brother-in-law John Sharen; by his aunts Irene Bachelor and Florence Maitland; and by his uncle Ray Dyke.  Ross was a very active member of the community, and was recognized on the Mayor’s Honor List in 2013. He was a Cub leader for 25 years, Sarnia Streets Machine member for over 20 years, a crossing guard for 15 years, he also fostered leader dogs for 3 years, was a member of High Park United Church and a member of Petrolia Lions Club for 27 years. Ross was a core inspector at Holmes Foundry for 26 years.  Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a Lion’s service being held at 6:30 p.m.  A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery.  A special thank you to Dr. Dostaler and Dr. Maddison; the staff at St.Joseph’s Hospice; Rev. Jeannie Udall of Alberta and Rev. Carol Ferguson of High Park United Church, Sarnia; and his dear and special volunteer friend, Jeff Percival, at St.Joseph’s Hospice.
