Peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 1st, 2013 at the age of 83 years. Beloved husband of 63 years to Carmel Diotte (née Desmarais) of Sudbury. Son of the late Xavier and the late Jeanne (née Deslauriers) Diotte. Loving father of Marie-Claire Diotte-Hart (Eric), Diane Suski (Jack), Lise Curran (Rod), Jim Diotte (Thérèse), Richard Diotte (Alice), Daniel Diotte (Lise), Anne-Marie Diotte, Mike Diotte (Roberte), Patrick Diotte (Louise), Jacqueline Diotte, Carole Diotte-O’Bonsawin (Pete) and Nicole Diotte-Huneault (Marc). Dear brother of Raynald Diotte (Berthe), Rodrigue Guillot (Cécile), Yvon Guillot (Marguerite), Carmen Riopel, late Aline Vitali, Rhea Robinson, Huguette Harnish, Louise Diotte and Gilberte Grisdale. Loving Pepere of 33 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 6. A long-time resident of Sudbury and entrepreneur. Romeo was too busy to retire. For 82 years he remained active with his large family, business concerns and outdoor activities. He enjoyed going to camp on weekends, cutting firewood, fishing and gardening. His huge gardens at home and at the cottage were his pride and joy. In keeping with his generous spirit, he happily shared, by the truck load, his garden’s produce with family, colleagues and neighbours. With his unique way of handling people, he could be quite the charming gentleman, endeared him to all he met. Carmel and her family would like to express gratitude to the following for the care of Laurent Romeo: Dr. DeBlacam, Dr. Want and Nurse Nicole and staff of the Northeast Cancer Centre, the C.C.A.C. staff, Amanda and all the nurses from Bayshore, Sheila, Pat and Rosie from We Care. As well, a heartfelt thank you to family, friends and colleagues who visited or phoned, brought food, gifts and shared their love and support. The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury, on Monday, August 5th, 2013 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 6th, 2013 at 11 a.m. at L’Annonciation Church, Sudbury. Donations (by cheque only) to the Northern Cancer Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
