Passed away peacefully at Leamington District Memorial Hospital on December 8, 2013 at 94 years of age. Dear husband of the late Madeleine (nee Daudelin). Son of the late John and Grace Diemer. Loving father of Barbaranne and husband Ronald Kroll of Thornhill, Les Diemer and wife Annette of Leamington, Jay Louise and husband James LaCourse of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Gisele Diemer of South Korea, Dan Diemer and wife Bobbi of Woodslee, Melanie DesRoches of Canmore, Alberta, Rudy Diemer and wife Terresa of Rockwood. Treasured grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Brother of the late Stanley and wife Bertha, the late Alphonse, husband of Nora Jean, the late Bernadine St. Pierre and husband Laurent, the late Gerald, husband of Irene, the late Eileen, wife of the Willy Desimpel, and the late John Diemer (1934). Charlie worked on the family farm since the age of eleven and was actively involved with numerous farm organizations. He was the founding president of the Essex County Federation of Agriculture. As a volunteer and charter member of the Woodslee Credit Union in the late 1940s, he operated it from home and ensured its survival and growth. He served as the first volunteer, treasurer and manager of the Essex Medical Co-operative, which provided health care coverage before OHIP. Charlie was grateful to have been given so much trust by the community, family and friends. Charlie was a recipient of the Order of Canada in 1985 and the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2012. He was inducted into the Essex County Agriculture Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2012. He was a 74 year member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus # 2775 Belle River and a member of the St. Francis 3rd Order Group in Tecumseh. Visitation Wednesday 2-5 and 7-9 pm. Parish Prayers Wednesday 4 p.m. followed by K of C Prayers 7:30 pm at the Melady Funeral Home at 572 Notre Dame, Belle River (519) 728-1500. Visiting will continue on Thursday from 2-5 and 7-9 pm at the Kennedy Funeral Home Ltd. (519-776-7378)  at 128 Talbot St. North, Essex. On Friday, friends are invited to meet the family after 9:30 am at Holy Name Church (146 Talbot St. S, Essex) followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Private family interment.
