web_Di Gesu, Maria

On November 30th, 2013, at the age of 72, Maria passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Beloved wife of Antonino Di Gesù for 51 years. She was a dedicated and loving mother to Elvira (Luciano Iarusso), Nicolò (1965), Loredana “Lori” (Ron Quaggiotto), Nick (Anna Mandato-Di Gesù) and Christine. She was also an inspirational Nonna to Amanda, Melissa and Erica Iarusso, Elisa and Emilia Quaggiotto, Liliana and Gabriela Di Gesù who will fondly remember her as their “Mariuzza”. She will be missed by sisters Caterina Vizzutti and Sergio (1987), Rosetta Russo and Salvatore (2010), sisters and brothers in law Rosetta and Gaetano Dionisi, Giuseppe Di Gesù, Nicolò DiGesu (2003) and Maria as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins both here and in Italy.  Reunited with her parents Vito Gucciardo and Giacoma Perniciaro, brother Leonardo, in-laws Nicolò Di Gesù, Girolama Fiorentino,  Maria and Vincenzo Fodera, and Caterina and Salvatore Fiorentino.

From Mazara del Vallo, Italy, Maria always strived to learn new things while maintaining her strong cultural roots. A strong matriarch who taught us all how to love, be courageous, be optimistic, have faith and hold family and friends close to our hearts.  Maria was a seamstress who owned and operated Tony’s Custom Tailoring with her husband before continuing her work at the GM Trim Plant.

Maria enjoyed telling old stories and spending time with family cooking, playing cards, knitting and building puzzles. She will always be remembered for her bravery, good humour, warm affection and sparkling blue eyes. Forever missed and never forgotten, her memory will live on forever.  The family is grateful to T2B, to whom you can make a memorial donation on Maria’s behalf. A special thanks to the 4 West staff at WRH Metropolitan Campus for their outstanding care.
