Devolin, Grant Elmer – September 14, 1924 –August 9, 2014. In one month and five days he would have celebrated his 90th birthday. With sadness in our hearts, but with great joy for having had him for so long, we say good-bye to our loving Dad, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. Grant was a devoted husband to his “Sugar” Marna, who predeceased him in February 2013. After 66 years together as best friends, he never fully recovered from losing her. He was a strong and determined “gentle”man who had two passions in his life, his family and his work. He had a quiet strength and a generous heart when it came to both. He was our rock and his legacy is the example of a life well lived. Remembering him with love, are his daughter, Lana Reid (late Kirk), his son, Bradley Devolin and daughter, Sandra Taylor-Pennell. “Pop” to Jeremy and Carla Reid and Katie and Neil Unger all of BC, Johnathan and Logan Stalker of Deseronto and great grandfather of Jorja, Grant and Justyce Reid of BC and Bradley McConnell-Soule of Belleville. Grant was the youngest and only surviving child of Robert and Sylvia Devolin. He is predeceased by his siblings Walter, Robert, Ernest, Alice Derry, Thomas, George, Gordon, Raymond and Jean. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Jennie Ross (late Frank) of BC and Mae Cathcart (late James) of Whitby. Uncle Grant will be fondly remembered by their families. Grant founded and successfully operated Central Taxi for 55 years. At 89 he continued to work ‘every’ day until health issues in December changed his life. Retirement was never an option for Grant, but he knew and accepted it, with dignity. Grant and Marna were faithful members of St. Andrew’s Church and founding members of St. Columba Presbyterian Church. They will be missed. In 2013 Grant was presented with an Honorary Membership, as one of the longest active members of Belleville Men’s Sales and Ad Club. Grant was a 66 year member of Eureka Masonic Lodge and a Shriner for over 60 years.
