The family announces with sorrow his passing in Sudbury on Thursday, February 20th, 2014 at the age of 99 years. Beloved husband of 73 years to the late Irène (née Davis) Delaire. Son of the late Emery and of the late Mary (née Gervais) Delaire. Beloved father of Bob (Jeannette), Diane Girard (late Jacques), Claire Brideau (late Gérard), Aline Anderton (Bernie), Denise Beaulieu Wylie (Dave) and Monique Beausoleil (Gerald). Predeceased by his daughter Claudette Watts (late Ken). Dear brother of Edgar (late Rolande), John and Jacqueline Primeau (late Rolly). Predeceased by his brother Laurent and by his sisters Rita Burmanschlager (late Ozzy) and Thérèse Couillard. Sadly missed by 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Ben lived his final years at the Lasalle Residence Retirement Home. The family expresses its appreciation to the staff at the Lasalle Residence. A special thank you to his granddaughter Janice for the special care she gave to her grandfather. Benoit worked for many years for the Separate School Board, maintenance electrician and carpenter. He was known by many people as “Whistling Ben”. He will be remembered as an easy going and very lovable person. In his younger days, Ben enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed creating through his artistic abilities in wood carving, oil painting and sketching. He lived for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and all those who knew him. At Ben’s request, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held in the spring. As expressions of sympathy, donations (by cheque only) to the Maison Vale Hospice or to Sam Bruno Pet Scan would be appreciated.
